MRI on baby

Anyone have experience with having your lo sedated for an MRI? My lo has an MRI scheduled for his head in the am and if he doesn't cooperate, he may need to be sedated. I hate even thinking about this! Its a nasal liquid like they use for claustrophobic patients who have an MRI done.. Can anyone ease my mind? :'(

Re: MRI on baby

  • He'll fall asleep, be drowsy, then back to normal on no time. He will be on a monitor at all times so there will be someone watching his breathing and heart rate the entire time.

    Good luck!

  • We've never had an MRI but have had 2 ultrasounds and a VCUG (cath, plus X-ray and dye). I was nervous of how he would do and he pretty much slept through everything. Hope everything goes well and no sedation is needed!
  • There's a good change they will sedate him - that's what happened with DD when she had her MRI, but she had general anesthesia, so she had a tube down her throat.

As the previous poster said, he'll fall asleep and be drowsy. Sometimes they can be drowsy for the rest of the day, sometimes not. DD was back to normal by the evening, but was hoarse until the next day.

    Good luck with everything!

  • Thanks, ladies!

  • My DD had an iv and then I carried her back. When they were done she had to stay to be watched for about an hour. She was pretty sleepy all day. Good luck! I am sure he will be a little champ
