To be triplet mama

Hi ladies! I'm 16 weeks with fraternal triplets. Waiting for a reveal party this weekend to find out genders. Then I feel like we can start getting things going and organized.
I have a son that will be about 3 when the babies arrive. I'm having a tough time figuring out what I need 3 of to get ready for these guys!! I've googled but have not found many good lists. I would appreciate any help :) thanks so much!!

  • Welcome and congrats! I also have an older DS (4yrs) and we're expecting triplets. I don't know of any lists to help with preparations.

That said, for us personally, our first priority is a vehicle! We have some infant seats lined up from family but they aren't rated to 4 lbs, so may have to buy new. I'm planning to BF as much as possible, so I'll need a high quality pump. Diapers and somewhere to sleep. Oh, and a stroller (probably just getting a double, I'll carry the third if I'm alone). I'm pretty much assuming that the babies will be in the NICU, and we'll have my parents staying with us to help. So I can send someone out to pick up things as we need before (or after) bringing them home.

  • My oldest turned 3 two weeks after our trio was born. For us the only thing needed 3 of was rock and plays they slept in them awhile, car seats, cribs. We also had bottles even through I pumped they always used a bottle. We used a double snap and go and I wore a baby if I was on my own. Which I was most times. Welcome and congrats

  • Cribs and carseats rated at 4 lbs for sure (I like my graco snugride 30 a lot - it fit my girl way better than the other seat I had from DS).  Also somewhere for them to be placed when their not being held or in the crib.  I used a RNP, a chair to rocker by FP that vibrated, a traditional bouncy seat, and a low swing.  I did not have doubles of anything, just rotated everyone around.  However, with 3, you might want 2 of something here and there, but by no means do you have to have 3 of all these seats unless you find one you really like and all 3 really like.  At this point, since about 5 mo, they spend most of their time on the floor rolling around now, so the time where these things are needed is short lived.

The DSNG is a great suggestion, if there is such a thing as a triple snap and go, I'd probably get that unless you are comfortable always strapping one to you.  Hopefully your 3yo will be listening pretty well by then.  He'll probably not need a stroller much.  If we are somewhere where we need one for my 2yo, I always have someone with me and he's in his own stroller.  In stores, he's in the cart and I pull the DSNG behind me, so everyone is contained.

Congratulations and happy, healthy pregnancy to you :)

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
