good morning ladies! i was wondering if you could tell me your experiences with your water breaking. i am curious to know what it felt like if you had a big gush or just slow leak. also, i'm 34 weeks and measuring 40 due to extra fluid and a large baby. anyone else have this and go into labor early?
TIA
Re: water breaking feels like? and measuring big?
My water was broken for me in the hospital when I reached 6cm dilated. After my doc broke it I went from 6 to 9cm in 5 minutes. It was a big gush for me.
I was measuring ahead too. My baby was large 9 pounds 9oz, but my fluid levels were normal. I was not early or on time. I actually was induced when I was 41 weeks. The baby and my body was ready at that time....only needed the cervidil and then my body went into labor on its own. Good luck.
Mine broke wtih a gush and there was NO question it was my water breaking. It was warm and and just kept coming. It isn't like when you pee your pants and you feel like you could stop it if you try hard enough.
I had a big baby, but normal fluid levels and gave birth on my due date.
My doctor broke my water while I was in the hospital. It was a huge gush and very warm. It just kept flowing and took a long time to stop.
My water broke at home as I was sitting down in the living room to watch TV w/DH (it was around 8pm on a Friday night). When I sat, I felt an uncontrolable gush and as soon as I felt it, I jumped up and ran to the bathroom. When I stood up it stopped but as soon as sat down on the toilet, there was a pretty big gush. I let as much come out on the toilet as possible before I got up and got one of my huge Always overnight pads out of the hall closet (I had been saving them for after I got home but they were actually more useful on the way to the hospital because I kept leaking - the water didn't stop trickling until baby was born). When I got to the hospital nearly an hour later, I was 3cm.
I also measured big so I got a growth ultrasound at 38 weeks (DS measured at 6 lbs, 13 ozs), an ultrasound at 39 weeks to measure fluid plus had stress tests performed weeks 38, 39 and 40. My water broke at 40 weeks, 1 day and I had a healthy 9 lb., 9 oz baby.
Good luck!
My water broke on its own at 38w3d. At about 11:30 pm, I had a decent sized contraction for about 1 minute but nothing else happened. I stood up from the couch about 10 minutes later, took one step (luckily off the carpet), and BAM! I didn't hear anything or really feel a pop. It just started flowing. It was if I was peeing myself and hadn't peed for a REALLY long time. My water continued to flow all the way the hospital and while I was in L&D, especially whenever I moved, coughed or laughed. I lost my MP at the hospital, too.
I was scheduled for a CS three days later (b/c I had GD), but DS decided it was time then. Luckily my OB was oncall that night, so I ended up having my CS like planned.
DS had been measuring 4 weeks ahead (6lb, 11oz at 34 weeks & 8lbs, 8oz at 38 weeks). He was born at 38w4d and weighed 8lbs, 9 oz (21 inches). Healthy and happy.
