@chgibeau - I wondered the same thing! And if you just do a bikini not a Brazilian, do you wear your underwear while they do it? The absence of razor burn sounds awesome, but I would feel really weird about having a stranger other than a medical professional up in my business.
Some places give you a paper thong or paper undies to wear. I don't bother. It's weird, but I go to the same person every time, so it is just kinda like going to the gyno. ;-)
It's super awkward. But again, it's sooo worth it, especially if you are going to be at the beach or something.
eta: for me, the awkwardness was almost worse than the pain haha

@MrsHartman7 - So is $60-65 reasonable is $90 too much? These are the price ranges in my area. The $90 one is a fabulous day spa in my area, the other is a place that specializes in waxing.
I would just read lots of reviews of the places around you when deciding where to go. And apparently I have a LOT to say about getting my hoo-ha waxed.

Only you can decide, my friend. :-) I don't have to do that as much as I Do the rest -- maybe twice a year? I actually think it is less painful than the rest, but DEFINITELY more awkward and weird. Hahahaha.

I agree, its the least painful part...and when she tells you to pull your knees to your chest, just say what the hell she's seen everything else I own!

SOmetimes they have you get on your hands and knees and "assist" and that is super awkward and weird too.
I never knew you could refuse the "butt strip" lol she just says. "Spread your cheeck apart please" lmao . So I did as I was told "> . And they will also try to make you feel comfortable by engaging you in conversation and stuff. I also go to European wax and I too agree their wax is less painful. Also if you are a first time customer is like $25 bucks! Super cheap

It isn't necessarily refusing the butt strip - but if you book a "full bikini" it is everything but the butt strip (and cheaper), whereas a brazilian includes the butt.
How much does everyone pay for either a bikini or brazilian? Last I looked it was like $60-80! (My only comparison is my friend in mexico and that was like $10. But pedicures down there were $6. So I know it was all cheaper).
Man... I want one! I used to wax my legs so I feel like I should be able to handle the pain.
Holy Hannah, that sounds expensive to me! The place I go charges $29 for a Brazilian ($35 if it's your first time or $25 if you go for the special on Thursday) and $12 for a bikini wax. $79 gets you a full body wax, which includes full leg, full arm, underarm, and Brazilian! I'm pretty sure they're not cheaping out either, as they have been featured on a popular local t.v. show.
@kgs0505 I didn't find them too painful. I got my first Brazilian done while pregnant last year. For me the outside hurts the worst, and the middle bits aren't as bad. The parts you are most worried about may turn out to be the easiest, so I think it's better to just get it all done at once rather than build up to it. Then if you want to wimp out next time you know exactly what you can handle.
I totally went for the laser hair removal...you can usually find good deals on groupon, living social. It takes some sessions...but then you are done! But I had a horrible time with in growns when I waxed so it was easier in that sense too.

@BellaBean76 What was the difference in price between the laser hair removal and waxing? I've always wanted to go that route, but have also always been unable to afford really expensive treatments.
I think the packages I got were like 3 or 4 visits for $100. It took about 9 visits for it all to be gone. I have a few strays (like literally 10) that I shave every month or so...so I should go back for a touch up...but they are so few i just haven't made it a priority. You are probably looking at about $300 investment total but then you don't have to worry about it again...I haven't been in a few years. Based on the waxing prices around here...it's about the cost of 4 bikini waxes...
That it is. But I have to say that this is seriously one of the most informative threads I've ever read on the Bump and that (most of) you are way braver than me.
Also, I kind of wish Babs was still around to weigh in on this; I'll never forget her words of wisdom on this topic back when we were all trying to figure out what to do for our pre-labor grooming.
Okay, I'm gonna go for it! Soon... Too bad me and wine ahven't been close enough lately to actually get a couple glasses in me without being totally plastered! I'd need a driver
TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
I did Brazilians for a while and got sick of them so I opted for the laser hair removal.
it took about 10 sessions and it pretty much stopped growing back except for a little bit. The laser targets the dark coarse hair so all that is left is the finer light hair which isnt bad.
I haven't been back since having the baby, but I think I may just get the remaining waxed off for bikini season since it is so fine and sparse.
