Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Lost @ 8wks. Don't ignore the spotting!

I know they say it’s very common and part of me trusted that, but sadly at 8wks we lost our baby. I was spotting on and off for a week, then last Friday I woke up at 2am to realize it had turned bright red. We rushed to the ER and they did the ultrasound and we saw the baby’s heartbeat. It was really fast but they did say I was about 2wks behind (I ovulate late so this was expected in my mind) and told me my hormones were very low. They diagnosed me with a threatened miscarriage as send us home. A few hours later the bleed picked up and I called our OB. They brought me and did another ultrasound. The heart had dropped drastically and they broke the news that I as beginning the process of miscarriage. That night I went through the excruciating pain of cramping and naturally passing the baby. It was literally like going through labor. We were devastated. We spoke with the doctor and she said once I have one cycle we could try again. My husband is very enthusiastic about trying again as we have read that the chances of two consecutive miscarriages is very low. About 5%. This was our first pregnancy and didn’t know what to expect. I think now, after going through this, we will be more cautious but in a sense we feel ready to move on and try again. Has anyone gone on to have successful pregnancies after a first time pregnancy  they lost? Part of me is terrified to go through another loss, and the other is excited to think I’ll be watched and the chances are low.

  • Welcome to the board, sorry for your loss.

I have had 2 consecutive miscarriages, so the odds were not in my favor.  After the second m/c my midwife did some blood work and it turns out I have a clotting disorder, so she has me on baby aspirin right now and will have my start lovenox when I get a BFP.  Also, my progesterone dropped before my second loss, so she'd put my on progesterone suppositories towards the tail end of that pregnancy.  Even though I'm pretty sure the progesterone dropped was caused by the impending m/c and not the cause of the m/c, my midwife wanted me to start taking the suppositories again once I ovulate (bc it can't hurt).  On top of that, she had me take additional folic acid on top of my prenatal that I'm taking.

So, in summary, now I'm on extra folic acid, baby aspirin, and progesterone suppositories... and then eventually lovenox.  I might have been able to prevent my second mc if I tested and knew I had a clotting disorder.  If your Dr. does any of the common blood tests, I'd recommend doing them just to rule out the common issues.  Hope this helps.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm in the exact same situation. Lost mine at almost 8 weeks this weekend. Had the spotting and then the major bleed and cramping. Our first as well. My husband is very hopeful too. My doc said to wait for two periods before starting to try again. That seems so far away. In scared but I just want to start trying again. Hang in there girl hopefully we both won't be here long.
  • I told my husband it was odd but I was so eagerly to try again even though I am sad from this loss. It was just so sudden and I never expected this to happen. But after we researched, it appears to be very common for first timers. We are both hopeful for our next try.
thank you for the love a support

  • I'm so sorry about your loss and I 100% agree with the spotting and not ignoring it.  I just has light brown spotting when I went to the bathroom and everyone told me it was "normal" which it may be for some but the more I read about loss it seems pretty common to start with brown spotting.  I am so happy I decided not to ignore it and go get it checked out because it literally saved my tube from rupturing.

  • Normal was what everyone told me as well. Ittried to relax but something just didn't feel right. It kept happening on and off even on pelvic rest. The only reassurance I have is they told me next time around I'll be closely watched and cared for so we could find any issues sooner

  • I was told it was normal as well even by my doctor. :( it just kept coming and I had a feeling something was wrong. The day before my ultrasound it went away and I got my hopes up and really went in thinking all would be ok. It wasn't. They found nothing and an hour or two later i had terrible cramping and clots.
  • I'm not sure if I'm suppose to share here or not but my first pregnancy also ended in a miscarriage. I thought something was wrong with me. I went on to have a healthy pregnancy which began 7 months later and I now have a beautiful 19 month old. My recent 3rd pregnancy just ended on Friday in a MMC so it depends on your body. Don't think you can't have kids bc you have one miscarriage or even 2 or 3. I have friends that had 3 consecutive and finally had a healthy baby. Good luck and there are success stories.
