If your kid isn't cuddly...

DD is 22 mo and the LEAST cuddly kid in the world.  If get a one second half cuddle (her maybe putting her head on my shoulder because she's pooped) once a week I can consider myself lucky.

She also will almost never sit on my lap-- she's super active and doesn't like to sit calmly like, ever.

Is anyone else's kid like this?  I get so jealous reading all of the cuddly kid posts.  Please tell me this is in the range of normal behavior.

  • My DS isn't super cuddly, I'll admit it, I sometimes pick him up out of bed so I can get a cuddle while he's asleep.

  • My 22 month DD is a huge ball of energy. She will give a hug or kiss if asked, but it's incredibly rare for her to just sit and cuddle. She's just too damn busy for that stuff. :)

I seriously do this too.  Good things she's a heavy sleeper!

  • My DS is not cuddly. He was sick all weekend and wanted to be held, snuggled or in our lap. After putting him to bed DH said "I hate that he's sick, but..." And I said "youre glad we got two days of cuddles? Meeeeee too DH."

  • I rarely get a cuddle or get him to sit on my lap literally than like...5 seconds.  When I do get a hug/cuddle/lap sit it's such a nice surprise...or it means he hurt himself, doesnt feel good or is very tired.  Sometimes I can only get a snuggle when hes fallen asleep in his carseat and I'm carrying him to bed.

My DS is very very active and always on the go.... and thinking back, he really has never liked the feeling of being contained...even as a newborn, he didnt like his arms swaddled or being worn...just likes his space I guess!

  • Thanks ladies-- OK I guess I am not alone.

She's also a weirdly healthy kid-- she's maybe had one cold in her life (knock on wood!?) so I can't say we get many sick cuddles.

I will freely admit to picking her up when she is in her crib asleep, though.

  • Neither of my boys were cuddly as toddlers or babies. Ds2 is just over 2 years old and now likes to give me hugs and kisses, but rarely just sits on my lap and cuddles. My older son was the same way, BUT he still tells me good night and I love you before he goes to bed and he's 11 now. Some kids are just affectionate in different ways.

  • DS is rarely cuddly. Only if he is really into something on tv, then he passively lets me cuddle him. Today he put his head on my shoulder and I totally melted...but he's sick, so I'm pretty sure that's the only reason I got a spontaneous cuddle.
