Coffee! How I love thee!

My entire first trimester, I didn't WANT coffee. I didn't want a lot of things. But coffee.... I mean, I LOVE coffee. I used to drink ridiculous amounts of it. My OB even told me "You're allowed a cup of coffee, drink it!" But alas, I could not. :(

Finally, my taste for coffee is back! I drink half-caff or decaf a good bit, however it's so nice to enjoy the flavor of it again. I'm drinking a small glass of SassyFlats-special iced mocha: cold coffee concentrate (just a little) mixed into half dark chocolate almond milk and half regular unsweetened almond milk.

It is so rich and creamy and coffee and chocolate..... OMG. I'm so glad I can enjoy this again!

Is there anything your body made you give up in first tri that you're finally getting back?

Re: Coffee! How I love thee!

  • Coffee made me gag in the 1st tri but I forced myself to drink about a half cup per morning because once I got it down, it would settle my stomach. Plus I knew I would have an awful headache if I tried to cut it altogether. I pretty much gave up everything healthy in the 1st tri because it made me sick....veggies, meat, most fruit, yogurt, milk. I was on the Italian food and junk food diet because that was all I could handle. Now i can pretty much eat anything again although veggies are still not sounding great to me...not the taste, just the texture sounds bad right now.

Now I'm back to one full cup of coffee per morning, and some days about a half later in the day..this is especially true now that pumpkin and gingerbread lattes are back at starbucks! Those are usually the days that I end up having more than one!

  • Meat!! I couldn't eat red meat of any kind for the first 5 months. Now I'm slowing easing hamburger back into my diet. My husband is so happy we can cook the things he likes again :)

  • Food.

    ;-)

I kid, I kid. It's more like enjoying food. I didn't vomit during the first tri, but I was constantly nauseous no matter what, so I didn't enjoy eating at all. Eating was the only thing that made me less nauseous, but the process wasn't fun. At all.

  • I felt the same way about coffee. I couldn't touch it in the first tri...just didn't taste good! It made me sad because I really love coffee and it was so weird not to be able to drink it. My taste for it still isn't what it used it be, I need more milk and sugar than usual, but I can drink and enjoy it again which is nice :)

  • This was me exactly!!!!! I was a coffee addict--the stronger the better. I'd usually do a shot (or two) of espresso in my first cup of the day too, and maybe a tiny bit of cream and one splenda. The idea of coffee during 1st tri made me gag. I was so sad too, because I really enjoyed my morning cup! I switched to tea and then as I got less nauseous I went back to a lighter coffee with a crap ton of cream and like 8 trillion sugars. lol. I'm looking forward to my first super strong cup post-baby.

  • Something I missed first trimester that I can finally have again? Hmmm everything other than oatmeal and plain toast!

  • Meat of any type and spicy foods made me sick during the first trimester.  Then about week 15 I made DH take me out for a big, juicy burger and Indian food in the same week.

  • I'm another coffee lover and during the first tri (probably even a bit longer) I just could not drink coffee. Found out that iced coffees went down okay - I'm thinking it's because they tend to have more cream and sugar. I've been able to enjoy real coffee again the past couple of weeks and it makes me so happy!

  • Water! lol I'm grateful to just be able to pour a freaking glass of water and drink it instead of trying to sneak hydration in different forms. Went a week of only being able to drink slushies before my stomach caught on. Popsicles, juicy fruits, ugh. So glad to be lazy and have a glass of water again.

  • Vegetables and anything remotely healthy. The first tri I had the WORST aversions to any type of veggie. Thank goodness that has gotten a lot better. I'm still more picky than I normally would be, but at least I feel like I'm not eating garbage all the time. I'm also wanting plain water a lot more, which is great...first tri I wanted all kinds of flavored drinks but now plain water is the ticket.

I also agree with PP...soo happy holiday drinks are back at starbucks!! I only do decaf, but man, even their decaf drinks are great. now if only they didn't cost $5 a pop...

  • During my first two early pregnant losses I had cut out coffee once I knew I was pg. So after that I thought I should just enjoy my coffee after my third pregnancy and I've been doing great. I love my coffee too.
