What colors for bedroom/nursery?

We got the color below(comments) to paint the wall behind LO crib where her name will be hung. Originally I had planned to paint her wall this color and the rest of the room (One BR apartment so it's also our room) a lighter shade of grey. We bought a color we liked, but the lighting in the room makes it look purple and it clashes with the darker wall. Either way we would have to buy one more gallon of paint, but my question now is should we just go with the darker grey all over, or still go for a new lighter shade with an accent wall?

Re: What colors for bedroom/nursery?

  • Second picture is to help show the shade better against white. It looks lighter in the first picture than it is.

  • we are going with light grey accent wall behind crib what are you accessory colors?
  • I'm confused -- and it could be my mushy brain right now -- but is the color that you're showing for the accent wall or the whole room? That's doesn't seem very dark for a "darker" accent wall (as you described) if you're looking to go lighter for the non-accent walls. That's why I'm asking. It also looks more tan/beige than grey, so I'm having a hard time picturing it.

Regardless of the above, I think an accent wall for her side would be good. And that's saying something, because I'm not usually a fan of accent walls. But with the scenario you described (sharing one bedroom), I think it would be a good way to separate her side.
  • I voted SS. I dislike accent walls when it is just a different shade of the same color. It confuses my brain and makes me feel that the one wall was a mistake like it got an extra coat of paint or something. I do like accent walls that are a different color than the rest of the walls.

It's the accent wall @peanutmuse. It's a confusing color to describe especially since the lighting in the room made it lighter than we thought it would be. It's supposed to be a medium grey, and doesn't look tan in person thankfully, if that helps! We were planning a grey that was only a few shades darker than white for the rest of the room.

I attached the letters I made to show the colors we are using @pixieonboard! (Light pink, blue, white and grey!) And another with a grey letter against it that hopefully shows the wall color better. :) just ignore my swollen feet and hands!!

Sorry if this doesn't help! Having a lot of trouble getting a good picture in this light.
  • Honestly, I think you need to go even darker for the accent wall with those letters. The contrast doesn't look sharp enough in the pic on the right. They really pop in the pic on the left. I'm not saying you need to go that dark, but I think darker than what you have picked. But I know dark rooms aren't for everyone, so...

(I love dramatic paint colors, FWIW. For example, we have a chocolate brown living room. The nursery is an avocado green. Other rooms in the house balance it out -- greys, taupes, light blues -- but I love a nice dramatic color every once in a while.)
  • I agree with @peanutmuse. The color seems really light for an accent wall. Could you paint the rest of the room that color and then repaint the accent something darker to give you the effect you were looking for?

Our masterbed room and bath are gray and i love it. The bathroom is a lighter shade than the bedroom (Sherwin Williams lazy gray and morning fog if you are looking for ideas). They complement each other nicely and are good neturals so you shouldn't have the 'purple' effect. I have found that if you have good lighting most paint colors aeem lighter on the wall than on the chip.

This is exactly how I felt when I saw it in the room! It's a lot lighter than we'd planned for it to be. Even with us planning a very light grey for the other walls I still think it's TOO light, which is why I thought about doing the whole room that color. Maybe I'll just look at some darker colors and use this on the rest of the room? I really like the idea of having an accent wall considering our room situation.
