Do you parents ever forget?

I swear my parents forget what toddlers are like. They swear my brother and I were perfect angels who never whined or threw fits! My dad is especially funny. He was telling me this morning about my ds climbing on the couches and standing up on them and how he shouldn't do that. He was saying soon he will be running on them and then he will fall and start whining. I kindly reminded him that he and my mom allowed my brother and I to do flips over the back of the couches which resulted in my brother busting his head open! Oh how they forget what it's like:)

Re: Do you parents ever forget?

  • For sure!

My sis & I were perfect eaters & sleepers (according to my mom)

Not so much this time around.....

  • Apparently I slept through the night at like a month old, went down no problem anywhere and everywhere, never fussed in my stroller and on and on. My mother must not have a good memory.

  • My parents live in a split level house and they act like the whole world is coming to an end if I ask them to put up gates. "Can't you just watch him?" Right. My kid is obsessed with stairs and only wants to climb the stairs. I will do nothing but watch the stairs when I visit.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

Oh and MIL likes to think stairs are just fine and dandy for toddlers and that they are good at knowing their own limits and wouldn't ever injure themselves by surpassing them.

  • My mom is the opposite. Any time J is giving me a hard time my mom Iis like "it's karma. You were so sassy, and difficult!" Blah blah blah
  • yes! by my mother's accounts, i was like a miniature zen monk as a baby. i almost never cried or fussed for attention and certainly never had a tantrum of any kind. and of course i slept for 12 hours straight in my crib.

    i don't buy it.
  • I've been saying this for years. Older people just forget what it's like. I don't know how many times we've told my MIL that we can't go out to eat at 6pm, terrible hour and bed time is 7.
My parents remember our behaviors as toddlers. I am apparently dealing with a mini me with DD1. Sassy!

  • My parents remember for the most part, but DH was the most perfect child ever until he hit his teenage years. He supposedly slept through the night at 2 weeks and walked across the room at 6 months. And MIL claims they didn't use/have carseats, but FIL corrected her on that. Luckily, the in-laws are pretty great at taking care of DD because they're really careful to follow my instructions.

  • My dad's answer for everything is to spank the boys. I'm sorry, a pop on he hand I can see but am all out spanking I don't think so. He seems to think if I just get on them they won't do things again. He sees glimpses when we are all together but he still insists I don't discipline well. My mom remembers and thinks everything they so is hilarious and that it's payback lol.

  • My mom is pretty much the opposite. She always comments on how wonderful ds is, and how he's so happy and easy going. My siblings and I were apparently not the same.
