I think my dr is an idiot

So I went in to the dr Monday for cramping and they found my little yolk sac and confirmed that I'm 5 weeks and some days well they did blood work and my hormones went from 1800 to like 18000 in 48 hrs..they did another ultra sound today and my yolk sac is noticeably larger than Monday. My dr told me that I need a d&c because my baby isn't as big as it should be with those hormone levels..there's no way I should be over 5 or 6 weeks to begin with bc me and my husband were split up for 3 months and I wasn't with anyone else and we got back together on the 28th which if I conceived in early oct I would only be 5 or 6 weeks. so why would she tell me my hormones are too high for the baby development? Maybe I have twins and because at 5 weeks or so you still have yolk that they haven't formed yet? I'm just not ready to give up and I feel like she's lost her mind..why would high hormones be a bad thing and be the result of a miscarriage? I'm pretty sure your hormones go down? And my pregnancy symptoms have gotten worse...hmm I need yalls opinions and I'm definitely getting a second opinion from another dr..

  • Second opinion for sure!! Just reading that didn't make sense. I would want physical evidence of a miscarriage before I did a D & C.
  • see another doctor before you do anything!! Good luck! This must be hard to go through

  • According to my "first day of my last period" I would be 7 weeks but me and my husband got back together right after that because it was sept 21st and we got back together sept 28th so when I was having some mild cramping and they did an ultrasound they told me I was 5 weeks well that was Monday and now here at Thursday my yolk sac has gotten bigger, my dr told me that you have a yolk sac up until about 6 weeks and I'm not six weeks yet according to early oct when I would have conceived so really the only thing that doesn't look right is the fact that my hormones are really high. I haven't bled or anything, I've had some mild cramping but I'm sure every one of y'all have too.my pregnancy hormones have even gotten worse!
  • @707mama I feel like my hcg levels are just really high cause other than those being really high everything else looks normal! I'm just not ready to give up! They keep telling me I should be further along with hormone levels that high but THERES NO DERN WAY I'm over 6 weeks..at all!
  • You need to find a new doctor, stat. That woman be crazy.

wow... second opinion and waiting a few days and getting rescanned for sure. My last prengnacy I went in and they said they saw no baby. They scehduled me with radiology since my hcg was so high and they saw a fetal pole and no heartbeat. Based on my lmp I was supossed to be 8 weeks (even though I was breastfeeding with irregular cycles) and I needed a dnc. I told them I needed time to think. I had been spotting so I was like if I'm going to loose this baby, then I will do it at home and not during a scary proceedure. My dr was rude and told me I was going to die of an infection. I walked out and talked to my old dr. She told me to go home, relax, and she would order blood work. A few weeks later she wanted me to come in to make sure I didnt have an infection and guess what, there was a baby. I was just VERY newly pregnant with very high beta levels and they wouldnt listen to me. Everytime I give him a kiss goodnight I thank God I got a second opinion <3
    That gave me shivers.

That's is very high and a very rapid change. My guess is they think maybe its a molar pregnancy which can be dangerous. However-- I'm not sure whether you would see a sac with a molar pregnancy. I would see if they can repeat your levels to see if it continues to increase so rapidly, and maybe repeat the ultrasound. If they don't do at least one of those I definitely would get a second opinion. And soon.

I just recently read about these, though I think a class mate had this in college, and the symptoms are really bad. Like you'd be really sick, right? I could be wrong, but I think there would be a lot of pain and vomiting.

They can have more nausea, bleeding later on etc... But sometimes you don't find out til later in the pregnancy. The uterus tends to enlarge rapidly and the hcg goes up to a much higher level than usual... And that is about the extent of what I remember about them. But I do wonder if this is what the doctors were worried about. However, if they WERE, then they should hae said "this could be a molar pregnancy" and explained it rather than just insisting on a D&C with no explanation
  • I'm definitely not in pain or vomiting, just nauseous, my my dr did mention an ectopic pregnancy but why would they see the sac in my uterus if it's in my tubes? I don't know...I've been crying and praying all day though..
  • Definitely get a second opinion. But I agree also that your dates are a little off. Conceiving in early October would definitely put you past 6 weeks now... Are you talking about the first day of your last period or the date you ovulated...

  • My first thought was molar pregnancy.  The numbers shouldn't go up that rapidly.  I read that a molar pregnancy causes grape cluster like growths, I wonder if that's what the doctor was seeing on the ultrasound?  If so, she should have explained things to you.  I would definitely get a second opinion, but I would bring up this issue and ask if that's a concern.  A molar pregnancy is nothing to mess with.  Good luck!  I hope it ends up being nothing.

  • If you are 7 weeks, that doesn't mean from conception date. You kind of "get" two weeks. I think that's where the confusion is here.
    image

  • I surely hope it's not a molar pregnancy!
  • There are only 4 weeks in a month...since my last period was the end of September then from the beginning of October to now would only be 6 weeks since we've only been through two weeks of November. So I'm thinking I probably didn't conceive the very first day of October so I'd say I'm about 5 or so weeks but yes if the "first day of my last period" method was applying to me y'all would be correct but it doesn't in my case.

  • BPaws said:
But.... You are already considered two weeks pregnant upon conception.
This.....I didn't have sex with my husband until we were married and I got pregnant on our honeymoon. I had my first ultrasound at 6 wks and we had only been having sex for a month. It is a little confusing, but they count that your egg is developing and maturing those 2 weeks. They always say girls mature quicker than guys, so maybe that's why ;)

  • You just aren't adding 2 weeks onto when you think you conceived. That would get you to about the same # of weeks as the "first day of last period" method that you are saying doesn't apply to you.

But that first day of last period method is just if things were in a perfect 28 day, ovulate on day 14 cycle. If your cycles are longer, or you ovulated late... Sure, you could absolutely be less than the 7 weeks pregnant.

  • Sorry, guess you all beat me to it. :\">

Why doesn't it apply to you? My last period was Sep 29. I'm now 6 weeks and 4 days.

  • Have they done more beta blood tests? Maybe it was a lab error? Just a thought
  • That's just what the dr told me...she told me I was 5 weeks based on everything and that I was very early in my pregnancy who knows.either way I'm gettin a second opinion in the morning.
  • I agree... second opinion!!

  • I agree with some of the others, your dates don't sound right.  I conceived October 8th and I'm now 7 weeks 3 days. So you should be at the 7 week mark minimum, right?  Always get a second opinion.

  • We are all here for you keeping are fx!
  • I ovulate late and my luteal phase is very short. So my LMP was sept 27 but I don't think I am quite 7 weeks yet like normal calculations would suggest. So maybe you are the same way. I guess I am behind about 4-5 days which makes a huge difference at this point! Good luck to you! I'm hanging in there in limbo as well. Sucky place to be.
