April 2014 Moms

For those of you who have been feeling baby for awhile...

I know it's normal not to feel baby every day once you first get the flutters, but how long did you go between flutters when you first started getting them? How long did you just have the occasional flutters before you started feeling baby consistently?

Just wondering :) thanks!

Re: For those of you who have been feeling baby for awhile...

  • Several days between the first flutters. I don't remember how long until it was consistent- this is all from last time though since I have an anterior placenta this time.

  • At first I only felt him the first time for one kick and that was it for a few days. Then it was probably a few flutters a day maybe 2-3 times a week. Then maybe two weeks after that it became everyday.
  • I felt flutters 1 or 2 times at like 17 or 18 weeks. Now at 20 weeks I feel daily movement. Not much kicks but rolls. Feels like the baby is maybe moving its arms over its head or rolling onto it side.

  • I felt the first flutters really early (like 14 or 15 weeks) and then didn't feel them again until about a week ago (19 weeks).  Now I'm beginning to find that I feel a little something every day

I'm pretty much the same. I specifically remember the day (around 17.5 weeks?) when all of a sudden it seemed I was feeling her hourly... and before that only when I really laid down and focused in a quiet room.

I'm 20w and they're so consistent now. Like clockwork most days, I track her schedule pretty well. When DH talks to her or touches my belly she goes crazy. I think it started being multiple times a day after 18 weeks. I felt her the first time around 14-16 weeks, but only randomly once or twice a day. She's a strong little mover, it's not mistakable. She was kicking away her whole ultrasound and I felt it all :)
  • First of all, I hope you're asking out of curiosity and not to worry yourself :) I bet baby is in there dancing and doing back flips right now!!

I felt what I thought was movement ONCE around 13 weeks, then nothing really distinguishable until 16 weeks which was still just one occurrence that week. Then around 17 weeks it got more and more consistent since I could recognize it. Now I feel tiny wiggles and rolls and nudges (not actual kicks) every night when I lay down before bed and rarely I'll feel a nudge or two during the day.

For me, it was like someone turned on a switch. I couldn't feel anything, then all of a sudden about a week ago it was like BOOM and there was all kinds of kicks. Baby was usually more active around 9:00, noon, 3:00 and 9:00. I wouldn't feel anything between those times.

Two days after I started feeling the kicks on the inside, we were able to feel them on the outside, still around those same times. The past couple of days have been pretty inconsistent with movement. A couple days ago I felt movement all day. Yesterday, I only felt a couple kicks in the morning and at night. Today, just a few this morning.

It's weird because at all of our u/s the baby wouldn't move at all. But now I'm thinking I have a future soccer player in there.

  • 3rd baby, felt flutters at 13 weeks, small taps at 15 weeks, then by 16 weeks more kicks in the evenings usually when I was watching tv was about all I felt, but daily. Now at 18 weeks it seems to be more often, a little in the morning, more in the afternoon, and some at night also.

  • After the initial flutters it took a couple weeks for it to get consistent. At 18 weeks I'm now feeling kicks everyday. This is my second.

  • I noticed with my first pregnancy and this one that some days the baby is really active and other days I feel them only occasionally. It's like they have a really busy feisty day and the next one they sleep more.

  • I still haven't felt much movement, except these past couple of days. Still nothing strong enough for me to stop and pay attention to but every once in a while I feel something that I think might be the baby. I wish they would be more regular, already!

  • I started feeling my first flutters around 15 weeks, by 16 weeks I wasn't feeling anything again. At 17.5 I was feeling more kicks and I'm feeling it just about daily now. I can tell when he moves into positions where I can't feel him as obviously too.

This is also my 3rd baby.

  • Still nothing "consistent"- just sporadic if I'm paying attention enough to feel it.

I was almost 18 wks (ftm) and I kept wondering why I couldn't feel it. All I could feel was my pulse when I laid down and focused on it. Then one day there she was and she hasn't stopped since. I have even felt her a few times from the outside now!

  • I've been feeling baby for about about 2 1/2 weeks and some days its a ton of movement and other days it's a few pokes or rolls here and there.  Not going to lie, the days where there isn't a ton of movement freak me out a little bit, but I just try to comfort myself that maybe it is sleeping or turned or something.

  • I'm a FTM, felt my first "thump" at 16 weeks, then nothing for about a week, then a few flutters and thumps on and off. I'm coming up 19 weeks now and they are getting more regular - I can definitely tell the difference between flutters and gas! For me its mostly at night when I've gone to bed, and in the morning once I've gotten to work.

  • I feel baby every few hours now, but in the beginning it was a lot more sporadic. I think the longest was 2 days... and not feeling anything for a whole day was pretty normal.

  • When it very lightly started about a week and a half ago, it was a few days between. In the past few days it's been everyday after lunch and sometimes again at night and they are feeling a little stronger than before.
  • I'm a FTM and I think I started feeling the baby about 3 weeks ago at 17 weeks. I really only felt the baby about once a day and it was just light flutters. All of a sudden this week, I have been feeling the baby multiple times a day. He seems to be very active! I'm not really feeling kicks as much as rolls...

  • I'm feeling thumps, but nothing consistent. Yesterday I felt a ton, today just a little bit. I can tell that the days my blood sugars are low (like yesterday), baby is crazy active. I'm having a hard time keeping my sugars down today, so baby is not as active.

I started feeling movement a week ago at 19 weeks but it was sporadic. Today I am feeling baby move more while I'm at work. Before, it was mostly when I laid in bed at night and it was quiet. Edited for spelling.

  • Thanks everyone! I appreciate your experiences. I officially started feeling baby on Monday, but I think I probably felt a few earlier on but just didn't know what to make of it. I feel mostly thumps, but part of me still doesn't trust myself that I'm feeling baby.
