  • November 15 is my imaginary cutoff. Once that day hits, I start the Christmas music. H is on a business trip in NYC (the jerk! ;) ) so it may start a day early.

  • I don't like spooning.

  • I hate nicknames. Not shortened versions of names-Kate's actual name is Kathleen-more like made up ones. My husband's entire family has a habit of giving every single person a nickname, even if their name is short already. For instance, their mother is Judy, and they call her Jud. Like Judy is so long to say. They call their dad Pops. My BIL gave his daughters ridiculous nicknames, and no one ever refers to them by their actual names. When we decided to call Kathleen "Kate", I thought, "Good. They can't shorten it to anything." Nope. My BIL calls her Baby K. I'm sure she will be 35, and still saddled with that nickname. It really annoys me. Probably more than it should.
  • I am sad that McDonalds discontinued the pumpkin spice latte already. They should run it until Thanksgiving.

    That would be Christmas's fault.

  • @TechieGirl1 I'm sure we're in the minority of loving Christmas music this early,I even made a bitstrip about it on Facebook when I discovered a 100% Christmas music station the other day

I am the same way! However, I am a bit more extreme because I don't even like shortened names all that much. I just think people should go by what they were named. I respect that other people like NNs and some people go by shorter versions but for me that was a no go. I like my name, Bridget, because people typically don't shorten it unless they call me Bridge and that just annoys the crap out of me. I named my LO with the thought that no one would need to shorten his name. It was a requirement.
  • I do love peppermint and gingerbread but they can wait until after Thanksgiving. I mean if Cookie Monster can exercise self control, so can grown adults at Starbucks.

Along these lines, I hate when people with cool ethnic names go by a white version of it. FIL's name is Giancarlo but he goes by John. If I had a cool name, I would make people use it.
When I was working in this bakery, my kitchen manager's name was Jorge and the owner's son worked there and his name was George. George called Jorge George and there was nothing that he could do about it since it was the owner's son. What an ass.

  • @shana+chris, pumpkin pie used to be a Christmas thing. My Dad makes it every year because it's in Here Comes Santa Claus so my niece and nephews think it's necessary.

@saltypearl, how do Canadians decide when the start of Christmas is? Also, why were you in the Children's hospital? I think I missed it. How all is ok.

  • It annoys me that names that are short versions of other names, like Liam is short for William or Beth is short for Elisabeth, get their own name place on the census baby names list.  I think that the "nicknames" (if you will) should be counted under the "real" names.  Just my two cents.

  • @Baker_Bride  I typically work with a Dec 1 I can decorate/turn lights on, listen to carols, but some use Nov 15th as its a respectful amount of time after Remembrance Day

We just got out of the hospital yesterday, we went in for what appeared to be an allergic type reaction (bad rash and swollen eyes), found out DD was anemic and had low protein in her blood.  Sounds like she can't have cows milk anymore (at least for several months) to allow her tummy to heal and we'll reassess in a few weeks to see if we need to eliminate additional dairy and/or soy.  They never really gave a definitive answer and after 9 attempts to draw blood unsuccessfully I refused to allow them to try from her arms/hands anymore.
I'm so sorry about the blood draw attempts. I needed vodka after Howell's at his twelve month and They only needed three sticks. He looked like he had a wrap around tattoo on his bicep from the tourniquet.

If you need any ideas about how to bump up iron intake, I have chronic anemia and have to constantly watch my iron intake.

  • Is it Joseph?  And how do you pronounce your sons name?  I have a hard to pronounce first child too, and I'm STILL sure I'm messing up your kids, ha!

I thought I hated nicknames (shortened name types) until I had Howell and realized he's such a Howie. I go back and forth and would not like if he never used Howell but do like Howie.

I also like Beth as a shortening of Elizabeth, probably because of Little Women.

H is so bad about other nicknames that are not derived from the person's name. He calls my Dad Tom Selleck. My sister is Sunny Lane. My one nephew is Butters and the other is Henny Penny. My niece is Polly. I'm Smudge, Pork Chop, boulevard, screwball, sweets....the list goes on. I don't know if he's ever said my actual name. I suppose he did at our wedding.

  • It bothers me when people add "ie" to an already short name. Brooke=Brookie. Ethan=Ethie. It reminds me of something that you would really only do with names of pets.

@millerhomelife My husband's father calls him Jasie since his name is Jason.
@saltypearl I'm sorry your experience was so negative but please don't condemn all nutritionists.

I wish the general population had some awareness of infertility since it affects approximately 20% of the population, distributed equally between men and women. And infertility does not mean untreatable sterility.

This, but we intentionally named our daughter Evelyn because we loved both Evelyn and Evie. But that doesn't feel the same to me like what you're saying...

My husbands cousin just had a baby boy and named him Zackri. C'mon man. I have no idea what her other son's real name is because they just call him KamKam. He's 12...
