I have a million ideas (thanks Pinterest), but at the moment I like the idea of a "Chapter 1" book themed party. I'm an English teacher so it's suitably dorky. Maybe people would get him books instead of noisy toys, too.
Ahhhh! I can't believe it! Thanks to Pinterest I have a million and one things I want to do but I will start narrowing it down once the new year is here.
I just figured out what I might do for his birthday! I got the idea from the "Chapter 1" theme.. I am doing periodic table theme.. he will be Hydrogen. I will be drawing a little hydrogen symbol on his head like Dr. Manhattan. Omg.... I am typing all this out as I think. Lol.
My first thought was I can stop pumping!!!!!! Birthday party will probably be a back yard bbq. Thinking ladybugs. Red checkered table cloths. I've made a ladybug cake in the past. Turned out super cute.
Ours will also be book themed, I just haven't decided what yet. His room has Shel Silverstein work hanging on the walls, but I want to change it up for the party!

So cute! I did a ladybug theme for Ava's first birthday and made a fondant ladybug cake. It was really fun!
DD is obsessed with anything monkey-related, and we call her our little monkey sometimes. So, we're going with that theme. I've made all of DS' cakes for the past 9 years ... everything from Elmo to Legos to Dinosaurs to the Avengers, so I'll be doing that tradition with DD as well.
We will invite family over for a party -- usually snacks and then cake. Oh, and she'll definitely have a chance to smash/dig in that cake too!
We're doing "Thing 1 and Thing 2" themed parties. My sister is throwing a party for my family in California. I'll have a party got our local friends. I'll probably have it at our country club because I'm too lazy to clean the house.

I'm booking a hall because I don't want to have it at my house. I had my wedding reception, bridal shower, & engagement party at my house & the clean up and preparation is always horrible. Brayden loves owl sounds so were doing a "Dapper owl" theme. Owls with little mustaches, ties, and hats.
LO's bday falls on a Saturday next year, which is nice. I think we're just doing a small get together/brunch type celebration with grandmas and our closest friends. I haven't thought about it much beyond that.
@KatK421 and @cece2682 if you do end up doing a VHC party, let me know! I have a bunch of printables that I got from a blog and a bunch of things I made for Charlie's birthday party. :-)
My sister and I learned the art of marshmallow fondant and made a cake - it was a lot easier than I thought it would be! I have a Pinterest board with lots of VHC links too, if you want.

I think I may be he only parent that doesn't intend on doing a themed birthday party for LO. We'll have a small party with grandparents and godparents.... I think I just found my UO for the day

I don't think I'm going to have a definite theme but will rather stick with a colour scheme. I think it'll probably be simpler that way, and it will be just family and close friends so I don't want to stress myself out trying to plan a super elaborate themed party. Can't wait to make his cake and do a cake smash though ... I also don't want to think about him turning one yet !

Those are so cute! I'll keep my eye on them, since there will probably be a costume change after cake
I made this cake for my son's first bday. It was super easy and I am definitely not that crafty... You use a bundt pan and cut the cake in half.
