I know dilation doesn't mean much but...

It's still nice to know that something is progressing down there lol.

I went for my appt this morning and I was 5cm, 80% effaced, and bulging bag of waters.

I'm so ready to be done being pregnant. But I don't want her to come too soon either.

Yeah, 5cm and bulging bag would make me super nervous! I walked around at 4cm for a week before going into labor with DD1 but my water never broke on its own.

I thought a bulging bag would get you sent straight to the hospital?

ETA Nevermind, I think that's if it happens earlier in pregnancy than you are at 37 weeks.  But holy cow at your progress!

Yeah, that means something. Are you have contraction? At 5 or 6 cm (I can't remember) my Dr sends you straight to the hospital. I think you'll be meeting your baby soon!

I'm surprised you were not admitted yet, I thought after a certain cm they admit you just to keep an eye on things.

I have been at 6 cm since 28 weeks but I'm on bed rest and don't have bulging bag. Hopefully it means once our water breaks we will have quick labors :) did they put you on bedrest or anything?

Yeah, 1 or 2 cm is no big deal. 5 cm and bulging water? You might as well pack your bags now, and maybe wear a pad because when your water breaks you might go to 10 cm pretty quickly.

I agree with everyone else that that does seem like a pretty big deal.

5cm and a bulging bag! I'd be terrified to sneeze, cough, or even blink. I'd say you're pretty close. I'm also surprised you weren't admitted. GL and keep us posted.

Umm..correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure 5cm is active labor. I really wonder why your OB just sent you home!

While we are on the subject...does effacement tell much? Like can we walk around 100% effaced or no? Sorry FTM and always forget to ask my OB exactly what it tells

Yeah, I was dilated only a fingertip with DD, but OB could feel my bulging bag of waters...she stripped my membrane and I had DD the next day....so at 5 cm and a bulging bag, I say it's almost go time.

Edited to clarify that she meant my OB.

I laughed so hard at this. I'm with Kate and all other PP's here. That's a pretty big deal and I'd say it means quite a bit.
Lol, me too!  I was happy with my one measly centimeter! ;)

Maybe OP is packing her bag?
Or more likely pushing out a baby in the backseat of a car.

That is going to be one fast labor!

Did you have any idea you were dilated that much? Were you contracting?? Does it feel any different when you walk?
Please let me know when you can!

    I was 2cm at 31 weeks, 3 cm at 35 wks, and now 5cm at 37 wks.

I can't sit down for longer than 5 minutes without lots of pain and pressure, but other than that I couldn't really tell. No real contractions yet, some BH on occasion.

We live in a very small town and the hospital is no more than 5 minutes away so I'm not that worried about making it there when it's time. :)

She did it while she did my cervix check, so I didn't even know what she was doing it until she told me.  So basically it was no more uncomfortable than a cervix check, and those never hurt me.

Could you get a donut pillow to sit on? That might help with the pain of sitting on your tender bits.  Glad you're so close to your hospital, that might be why your Dr was ok sending you home.
