Weeks or months

How do you respond when people ask you how far along you are?  Do you give the time in weeks or months?

I answered in weeks this weekend to someone and they were utterly perplexed at that answer (this was a woman, who has given birth twice).

Re: Weeks or months

  • I give it in weeks. Most people get it. I do have one friend, though, that keeps trying to figure out the equivalent month. She hasnt had kids yet.

  • Usually weeks, it just seems more precise.

  • This weekend was the first time I started talking about it "openly" and I just automatically responded in months....but in my head I always think of weeks.
  • I always answer in weeks. Usually when I get asked they ask how many weeks are you and what fruit is it.

  • Usually weeks. Unless I am talking to someone that hasnt had kids recently...or ever. With them I would say "about 4 months" or the like.

  • I say weeks to everyone except strangers and people I feel will understand "months" terminology better. :)

  • It depends who it is. I'm more likely to say it in months.
  • I say it in weeks since it is still early and I think easy to figure out how many months. Later in the pregnancy I'm sure I will say in months because in the past when I would ask people and they would say 26 weeks, I had to think about it for a minute.
  • Weeks. Always. If they look confused, I say I'm due in may.
  • I say weeks, even when people ask in months, because it doesn't equate the way people think it does.

  • Both depends on who asks. Sometimes months is easier because I usually get "oh how many months is that?" if I answer in weeks

  • It depends on who I'm talking to. If its someone who is pregnant or recently had kids I tell weeks, most people I say months. Before I was pregnant I had no clue a pregnancy lasted 40 weeks so hearing weeks from someone else would have meant nothing to me.

  • I typically say weeks, but since we started telling people when I was 11 weeks, I just said 3 months to round it out.

  • Weeks. If I think about it in weeks, it goes by faster than months do. :)

  • Same with me I answer in weeks and if the person looks confused or I can tell the hamster wheel is tuning slowly I convert that to months.  But saying 3 months and 2 weeks or 3 & half months is just a mouthful for me.
  • I use weeks as well - so far I've been lucky and haven't had to explain what it is in months but I'm sure I'll have to at some point!

  • I find that younger people are fine with weeks, but older people prefer months. So now i'm 15 wks i'll say i'm "coming up to 4 months" or "3 and half months".

  • I say weeks too.. But now I have a question. In all my pregnancy apps it shows I'm in week 14...but I'm actually 13w5d. So do you guys say 13 weeks or 14? I've been switching back and first depending on the situation. I'm confusing myself. Haha.

  • Weeks. But my family hasn't had kids since the Stone Age...so I have to tell them in months. They are also very confused as to why pregnancy is now 40 weeks and not 38...they think it's ridiculous and wrong. :|

  • Weeks for me. Honestly I am too lazy to add up the weeks and convert to months. Numbers aren't my thing. Wrong side of the brain. No one
seems bothered when I tell them weeks.
  • I'll say weeks untill I loss track and the. I just start telling them when I am due.
  • Weeks

    It's a BOY

  • I work with all women (and they're all moms but one or two) in an elementary school. They all want to know how many weeks. I never really thought about months yet. Maybe when I'm further along. I feel like now weeks are just so much more precise

  • I do weeks because of course keep track of that every week. Honestly when I go to think of months I'd have to sit and count lol

  • Before I got pregnant and people would tell me in weeks I would always think why can't they just say how many months they are. But now that I'm pregnant I get it because I always say weeks too. I think it's confusing if you don't know how it works (not that you couldn't do the math but just didn't understand until now why the answer was given that way)

Weeks, always weeks. For me pregnancy is 10 months so when I got to the end and said 9 months last time people thought I was due that freaking minute b/c so many don't understand. 40 weeks /4 weeks = 10 months.

ETA: Or I would just say towards the end that I had X months/weeks to go or say "I'm due in February". Let's face it, once you're showing people think you're due to pop any freaking minute.

This actually inaccurate - most months have more than 4 weeks - usually about 4.5 weeks.  The only months that has 4 weeks only is February.  It's a common misconception that 4 weeks = 1 month.

For example, My LMP was July 26th and my due date is May 2nd - this is 40 weeks - however if you count by months (the 26th of each month being a month) than it is almost exactly 9 months.

I give it in weeks as well.. just easier.

Yeh yeh yeh. But this is how most people think about months. So if you tell me you're 11 weeks I'm gonna think you're about 3 months. It's easier than explaining to most people ok I'm due 5/29 so on 11/29 I'm 3 months.

  • I say it in weeks up to a certain point, around 20 I'll start giving it in months. I just think it sounds weird to say "32 weeks" rather than "7 months"
  • I usually say weeks, but to my friends who've never had babies, I'll get a blank stare and then I'll have to say "I'm in my 4th month." It's faster than waiting for them to do the math.

Well, technically you are in your 14th week but haven't completed it yet. I will usually just say 13 and a half or almost 14.

  • Months, unless its a woman who has kids or a doctor then I say weeks. I recently started doing that because I notice it was women who who would say how may weeks?

Before coming to TN/TB, I would totally look at someone crazy of they told me weeks.

I think in terms of weeks though. The month thing is too confusing at times.
  • In the early weeks (now) weeks, after I get huge I use months and 1/2 months.

Depends on who I'm talking to - basically if I think they'll understand weeks, I'll tell them weeks.  Otherwise, I usually say what month I'm due in.

  • I say that I'm due in early May, never specifying when.

  • Just please don't count 4 weeks as 1 month because that's not really true and it drives me crazy!  I am due 6 months from this weekend (Nov 16 - May 16).  Yet I'm 14 weeks.  See how that doesn't have 4 weeks per month? ;)

How in the world is that easier?  When your baby is here, do you count 4 weeks as 1 month?  Likely, no.  My DD was born Dec 2.  She was 1 month on Jan 2, not Dec 30 (4 weeks).   I don't see how a pregnancy is any different other than you would basically count backwards.
