"things may change" - things always may change. Planning unmedicated unless there is a major change in plans, like transfer from birth center to hospital major.
I went unmedicated with DS and am hoping to do the same with this one. I didn't know what I was getting myself into with #1, and now that I realize how much that shit hurts, I fear that I may give in early. However, if this one does come faster than #1 did, then I think I can hold out.
I'm curious about how many planned for a natural birth and felt pressured by nurses and doctors to get the meds? I've heard from a lot of friends that sometimes the nurses are a little pushy about it. Anyone have this type of experience? I also read if planning to go natural to really look at it and prepare like there are no othe options like epidurals aren't available and it helps?? I think that parts a crock of shit but who knows!
I've had one child delivered with an epidural and one delivered without. I think for me what I will do with my 3rd depends on how fast delivery is. I didn't choose no epidural for my 2nd, but he came too quick. There were definite benefits to no epidual, like getting up and walking to the bathroom afterward instead of laying in bed for hours attached to a catheter. However, if I had to labor for hours, then I would want an epidural. If it's just an hour again, I can do that! So we'll see!
I watched the movie The Business of Being Born on Netflix and it made me want to do a home birth and I do not WANT any sort of medicine. But I completely understand that sometimes the pain might be too much, so we will see.
Med-free for a 3rd time here. To me and epidural is not even an option unless I need surgery.
My first birth was a birth center transfer and I needed forceps assistance, the nurses asked I said "NO, I've gotten this far I'm not stopping now!". My second birth was an induction due to low fluids. I had second thoughts right as I hit transition but I even if I wanted I couldn't anyways because I was 8 cm.
I was never pressured by nurses, I let them know when I arrived that I had no interest in an epidural and that if I changed my mind I would ask for it, they never asked me again.

I want to do natural because of how my epidural didn't quite work out for me last time. I wish I had a good experience with my epi but I didn't, so therefore I don't feel the need to get one again.
I'm hoping to do natural (but feel like I'll feel more confident after some classes). Based on what I've read (and my personality) I think it'd be a good fit. I'm hoping my experiences running super long distances and pushing through the pain will mentally help me out. However, if I end up needed a lot of interventions, that may change.
Luckily, I'll be giving birth in a birth center with a midwife, which will make it much easier. They only do intermittent monitoring and you can labor in any position, which will be helpful. I also am toying with the idea of a doula, since I found out my pre-natal yoga instructor is one. Seems like having a "coach" would be beneficial for a FTM, but cost might be prohibitive.

I went au naturale with my daughter, and I swear when I was in the thick of labor if I could have gotten drugs I probably would have, but I was at a birth center so not possible. That being said, now that I know that I can do it, I'm going without medication again. That is, if all goes as planned
Arrived at the hospital 10 minutes before DS was born, so drugs werent an option. Feel quite confident this one will be born on the side of the road, with less than an hour of labour, drugs aren't really necessary.
Unmedicated with a midwife for me! I'll be in a hospital that has a birthing center with tubs, etc. OBs will be on hand in case anything goes wrong, but my MW and I have an all-natural plan in place!
I hope to go drug free, however I know that things may change! My mom planned to go drug free with me and 27 hours of labor later, ended up having a c section. I have a really great midwife so we will just see what happens!
I'm pretty dedicated to natural unmedicated childbirth (unless baby or I have our lives in danger). I had a doula with my first and had a great birth experience and I'm planning to use one again.
SS I am a STM and don't have a choice! High risk and due to a uterine deformity/anomaly I have to have a RSC at 36-37 weeks. However last time, before knowing this I tried as long as possible to go without meds, once I had been in hard back labor for 24 hours at the hospital and no sleep in over 24 hours I gave in to the epi - AND it didn't even work! It was another 8 hours before I ended up with the emergency c-section. By that time I had not slept and been in horrible pain for over 48 hours and actually fell asleep on the operating table!
I had the epidural with my first, but my body rejected it and I felt everything. I had to get a blood patch after birth because the epidural really messed me up. My second was natural. I plan on having this LO natural because it's a lot less complicated than everything I went through with the epidural.
Last time I planned to go med free but it didn't happen. I actually had a bad experience with the epi, so I'm ready hoping to going med free this time. Who knows though, things change quickly when I'm the situation!
My first birthing experience with DD1 was pretty horrific for me, she was born with bruises all over her head and had an abrasion, all from being stuck for so long as I labored and tried for hours to push her out. Ending in an ECS.
So after all that I opted for a scheduled C-section for DD2, and another for this baby.. The last time was so comforting for me. It went very smoothly and there were a few perks to having it scheduled. We knew the exact day the baby would be here, which also made it possible for my mom to fly in to take care of my kids during the time I spent recovering.
I cannot have an epidural due to my insanely low blood pressure and the horrible reaction I had to one in 2008 (used for pain control after major abdominal surgery - not childbirth). My OB said I would not be a candidate and to study up on all things natural! I had planned a natural birth, but knowing there isn't a backup makes the choice to stay natural easier for me.
I am planning to have another home birth, but that is provided that I stay low risk and everything looks good to go ahead. At the end of the day my goal is healthy mama and healthy baby though, so whichever means get us to that end

You didn't give an option for C-section mamas!
