Trouble TTC

Anyone in the same boat?

Im new here, so heres a little background on me. I am 29, DH is 35. I got pregnant (without even trying!!) in December 2008. 3 days after my positive test I miscarried. Ever since then my cycles have been messed up and now, rarely ever come (seriously, were talking 3 a year if im lucky!) Ive been to 3 different doctors over the last 5 years and all are convinced im not getting pregnant solely because Im overweight. This last doctor I went to actually told me I would be healthier if I were anorexic!! I have been trying to lose weight (im down 10lbs!) Not that impressive but out of the blue after 6 months of no period I got mine! It was from October 29 - November 3. On thursday the 7th I was completely surprised by a huge amount of CM. It had no smell, not yellow or green. It was a little clear, but not crystal clear. I guess the best way to describe it is healthy looking snot hahaha! I was completely caught off guard and I havnt been temping or anything so IDK if I was ovulating already or not but to be on the safe side we BD'd that night. And I guess here we are 5 years later still trying for number 1. What do you all think about the CM? Does it sound like it could be fertile CM? I know that night before BD I was feeling some pinches around my ovaries. IDK, its probably all in my head. I guess I will find out in a couple weeks!

  • Your story sounds incredibly frustrating and I'm so sorry for your loss. Have you been evaluated by an RE? Some REs do have BMI restrictions. By way of reference, mine requires a BMI of 44 for IUI and 40 for IVF. My concern for you is whether there is another underlying issue. If you haven't already, a full IF workup for you and YH is in order.

  • It is hard to tell if the CM you are describing is from an O or not.  You should try charting your symptoms so if this comes around again you will know.  Typically CM at O is like egg whites.  I can say that I have also been told by many drs that my weight is affecting my fertility.  I have PCOS and I am anovulatory.  For women who do have PCOS I know weight can greatly affect infertility as well as how your body reacts to meds that an RE may have you on.  That is why I am benched from trying to conceive to try to get my weight down.
Your situation sounds very frustrating, and I hope you are able to resolve it soon.  I would say however, you should keep going with the weight loss, and seek out an RE to help you.  Hopefully things turn around for you.

  • Weight can be a factor.   I am below my RE's BMI restrictions but he still asked me to lose some weight as I was not responding well to the meds etc...

I agree with pp tht you should chart.... have you had a full work up with an RE? Do you have a diagnosis?

  • Thanks for responding everyone! I live in the boonies and a trip to an RE would be over an hour so its hard to find a specialist that I can see regularly. I have talked to an RE before and he gave me Metformin. I responded terribly to it and had to stop taking it. I have also had an ultrasound done on my ovaries and there are no cysts and everything else looks really good. Ive been trying to lose weight but its so hard! My goal is to lose at least another 30lbs. According to one of the doctors that would put me in a healthy pregnancy weight and said "If you get to XX lbs I bet you will be pregnant within 2 months." Its just getting there thats the hard part! Its like they assume that if you just started eating healthy and exercising the weight will fall off. If it were just that easy, huh?!? Thanks again everyone!

  • I guess after three doctors confer that it's a problem with your weight, it's probably a problem with your weight- but have any of them tested to see if there's another issue at play, like a thyroid issue?

  • Hi sdb... Frustrating isn't it? WeLcome! I'd recommend switching doctors. It can't hurt, right? And definitely bring up any other concerns you have. I'd have them check thyroid, though they might have already sent one out with your bloodwork. Just bc you have cm that is clear, doesn't mean you are ovulating or anywhere near it. You can't ovulate without a period. And I'm just like you, I would normally get one to maybe two periods a year, and it's not technically a period, bc at that point your body is just expelling built up gunk. Gross, sorry. So In turn you aren't ovulating. I see a np for my infertility and she's really good at explaining things to me. If you'd like to try and be more regular, deff try birth control, if you'd still like to actively try to conceive then try provera, it brings on a period, but doesn't trigger ovulation. Then I'd recommend talking to your doctor about clomid. Or something to induce ovulation. Or maybe a combo But I feel ya, I'm in the boat right there with you, secretly the 1 period a year is plenty haha, but look on the bright side, you've conceived before,! so you're further ahead then a lot of us. Deff work on a new game plan Hope to hear an update soon -hilary
