Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Canine Teething

Hi Everyone,

How were your experiences with toddlers getting their canines?  My DD is really really suffering with the pain from this at night and sticking her hand in her mouth with just a very painful cry.  She had bad pain with her molars but this is really bad.  Im sure it's not an ear infection because she has been to the doctor and that is not the case.  Anyone have any experiences to share and how long the pain lasted for their kids? I feel like I block out my past teething memories and cant remember how long the pain spurts last.

Thanks

  • It was bad and lasted forever, all four came at relatively the same time, but overall lasted a month or two.  Sorry I dont have any advice, they were definitely the worst teeth.  Just know they will be in evenutally and then it will be done :)

TTC#1 May 2009- July 2010 on our own with no luck

Started with RE in August 2010, dx with unexplained IF and then finally our 3rd IUI cycle using Follistim and Trigger resulted in our wonderful little man.  Born 12/2/11

TTC#2 Never really prevented, but were careful early on as Dr. reccomended

Surprise BFP 12/16/13, started progesterone immediately as first numbers came back low, but betas were good.  Progesterone wasnt enough. Natural MC 12/24/13.

Back with RE as of January 2014...

    5/27/14- Chemical Pregnancy :(

    April 2015 IVF#1

    5/13/15- BFP, please stick LO!

  • Canines were definitely worse than molars and it seemed like it took forever. I gave DD baby Motrin regularly and let her have ice cubes in one of those mesh feeders.

  • Canine teeth were so much worse and took a lot more time to come in than the first set of molars. DD is working on her 2 year molars now, which seem to be taking even longer.

  • Canines are the devil. My son basically got all four at once and it took about 2 months before he seemed to be no longer bothered by them.

  • I agree!  Canines are the worst!  And they took forever to come in.  I *think* the last one has finally cut through, but it took a few weeks.  We'll see if he is no longer bothered by it tonight....  We gave ibuprofen before bed - it lasts longer!  And then Tylenol if he woke up in the middle of the night.  Lots of middle of the night wake-ups!

  • Yes! DS has been a trooper with all of his teeth, but the canines have really thrown him. He's getting both bottom canines right now. Argh! I was hesitent about giving tylenol, just because I thought it would be okay after a day or two but I might just give him some if it keeps persisting.
