April 2014 Moms

Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

So I know there have been a million posts about baby moving lately, but I don't feel comfortable about my baby's movement so I guess I'm looking for reassurance? I'm 19w3d today and I still don't feel him/her. I think I've felt a couple movements a while back (~16-17 weeks), but not super kicks or anything (and this is baby 2 for me). I assumed maybe my placenta was anterior, but I asked and the dr says it's not. I was feeling content at the visit bc he said he could hear the baby rolling, kicking, and moving (the 3 things they listen for on doppler) and said it's a healthy baby. But then, he asked if I felt lots of movements in a way that was kinda like "yeah I bet it's moving a lot", to which I replied no. That's when I asked about the placenta. To reassure me, he said I would feel it by 19w probably bc most are between 16 and 19. Well, now that I'm 19.5 and still not feeling it, I still don't feel reassured. :( anybody else in the same boat? I'm not set to go back until 21w.

Re: Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

  • I'm 19 weeks 2 days, haven't felt anything that I'm certain was movement. I may have felt a few things, but it also could have been gas. So I'm taking my friends word for it that eventually all the kicking gets annoying so I'm "cherishing" these last few weeks of peace. Haha but really I'm anxiously awaiting feeling the baby.

  • I've had 6 babies. And now twins. PLEASE don't freak yourself out. I PROMISE you that you will start feeling some hard and very noticeable kicks soon. My first 5 I felt at 14-16 wks. Number 6 was 18-19wks. I was shocked. This time, I felt once at 16 wks and nothing since. It all depends at this point, location Of babies, where u are, what you're doing, any caffeine, the list goes on. Soon you're gonna be saying what we all do- OW!!! ;-)
  • PS. My twins are anterior. But #6 was NOT.
  • I'm a STM too and not feeling baby yet! I do know I have an anterior placenta - same as last time. I worry too! When I told my husband I was worried (he's an md) he looked at me like I had two heads and declared that lack of movement isn't reason for concern until the third trimester. He's obviously never been pregnant!!

Try not to worry mama! I'm trying too!

  • I am almost 20 weeks and haven't felt any discernible movement :-( We had an U/S on the 31st and baby was moving around like crazy but it still freaks me out that I can't feel it. I get jealous when I read everyone elses post about feeling baby move and I can't help but feel apprehensive about it. I am sure our LO's are both fine, and I am sure sking72 is right when she says we should probably cherish these last few weeks/days when our babies aren't abusing our internal organs :-)

  • Thank you ladies so much! Knowing I'm not alone in this makes me much more comfortable with the lack if movement. My first one started moving early on, and I felt clearly discernible kicks not long after and until birth, so I guess I was expecting the same, if not sooner. But maybe this child is just a little calmer. Lord knows I could use that!!! ;) thanks again!
  • I'm at FTM but at my last appointment at 17 weeks, we had an ultrasound and you could see that the babies feet were pointed directly at my bladder, so that kind of explained to me why I haven't felt much (other than being a FTM.) Have you had an ultrasound lately? Baby might just not be positioned right to feel much yet. :)

  • I'm a STM and my baby is not much of a mover. I started feeling flutters around 15ish weeks but it all but stopped during weeks 16-18. In the last day or two it just started picking up again. I would lie if I said it didn't make me nervous. I used my Doppler on days that I didn't feel anything.

I really think this baby is a lot calmer than DS was. During our gender scan she barely moved at all. The tech had to bounce up and down on my belly to make her move. She gave us a show and kicked a few times. I didn't feel any of them.
  • With my first pregnancy, I barely felt any movement from week 19-21 and then BAM all of a sudden I started getting sharp jabs.  It will come.

Do you know where your placenta is?  If it's anterior, then it will take you longer to feel stronger kicks.

  • I was in your same boat last week. I wasnt really sure if I was feeling the baby move. I mean I could feel flutters but I wasnt sure  that was the baby or just itch skin or rumbly tummy. Just at about 20 weeks exactly I started to feel this baby move. Now it is unmistakable. I am a STM too and I felt my 1st at 17 weeks so I was expecting to feel this baby much sooner. Hang in there I am sure you will be feeling baby soon!

  • At my 16 week appt last month the dr said 18-22 weeks is average. Don't worry. As long as the dr said he heard those three things and baby is healthy you are fine.

Mine started super consistent at 18 wks 3 days. Now at 19 wks 2 days I have felt kicks from the outside 3 times now. It will come soon. Probably this week. Don't worry :)
