Things I really wish I hadn't taught my kid

One is where her eyes are. She is now poking everyone unexpectedly in the eyeballs as the hold her, asking adorably, "eye?" The other is "belly." She has taken to pulling my shirt up, exposing my soft, pasty belly and happily saying, "belly!" She did this the other day when we had people over. She has also started pulling down my and my husband's pants while we are standing. Admittedly, we do wear yoga pants and track pants way too much, but the other day my husband was standing in his boxer briefs after we had awoken, and Kate ran up and pulled them down to his ankles. He just happened to be standing in front of our picture window at the time. Anything you regret teaching them?

  • Ds also pokes people in the eye all the time. He'll also try to pry open my eyelid when it's closed. But then when we ask him where his eye is, he closes it and very delicately places his finger just to the side of it. It makes me laugh.

  • I wish my MIL didn't teach him how to fake cough. Oh how I despise the fake cough! Makes me run to him every time!

And I wish DH didn't teach him how to pretend to hit himself. Now he is full-on hitting himself, complete with sound effects, and I can't get him to stop doing it.

But me, I'm perfect so I haven't taught him anything regrettable. HAHA

  • Yep, we have the eye poking thing, too.  I wish I hadn't let her play with my keys.  When I give them to her, she heads toward the door to go out to the car, and it kind of keeps her occupied while I'm getting my stuff together in the morning.  But sometimes it's hard to get them back from her without her freaking out.

  • DS had a gnarly booger that was STUUUUUCK and I could not get to it (and he was fighting me on) I asked him to see if he could pick it and lodge it loose. Needless to say, he tries to pick all his boogers out now.

  • B would totally poke our eyes out so we've been saving that one. I wish we hadn't encouraged throwing the ball because now she throws EVERYTHING!

@Amaite, B will yank our hair but pat her own gently when asked where it is. My little sadist!

Yeah, I wish we hadn't encouraged ball throwing either. I don't think DS understands yet, "You can throw the soft ball but not the hard block." Plus, our 3 year old is all like "why can he throw a ball in the house, but I can't?"

Also, now that he knows where his belly button is, sometimes he gets really mad that his onesie is in the way of him seeing it. He pulls on his shirt and cries until I unsnap him.

  • I'm dying laughing at all of these!

I wish I wouldn't have taught him how to flush the toilet. If I don't watch him like a hawk, he's flushing cotton swabs and stale goldfish down the toilet.
  • Another one over here for throwing balls. My little rockstar throws his guitar at me l the time. If you don't have your hand out to grab something he just throws it at your face.
  • Also, I shouldn't have taught him where my nose is. He wants to stick his entire finger up my nose.
  • We have the ball throwing problem too. He especially likes to throw things at the dog to "play" with him. We are desperately working on that one!

Also, teaching him to tickle people big mistake. His version of tickling is more like clawing people's skin off.
