Totally NMS but love the meaning. I agree once you attach a face with it it'll get better. I'd personally MN it but if you FN it definitely pair with more modern MN.
I think it is interesting how above they asked if she like her name. My grandfather has always been Lee to me and my father & brother have that as their mn. He was also a semi-famous racer locally and went by Lee. So I was shocked when I made an ancestry book this year and found out his birth name was Leo. He just hated it so bad he NEVER goes by it and I mean never so much that I didn't even ever hear that name with him. So it's funny, maybe she didn't like her name either...
What about something similar to Phyllis like Philipa
This is exactly what I was thinking. I was named after my great-grandma Bertha but thankfully my parents didn't saddle me with that name. I still feel a special connection with her, even just having the same first initial.

For starters, Anya is my favorite girl name E.V.E.R!! I also like Maya. My uncles had a dog named Genevieve so that's immediately what I think about. How do you pronounce Esme?

Esme ia pronounced Es-May... Very pretty but kind of a mouthful for such a short name!

I just want to say I am so thankful for all of these lovely and thoughtful responses! I have quite a bit of time still. I am going to keep Phyllis on the short list and when my sweet girl is born I will know when I see her face whether she is a Phyllis or not. In the meantime, OMG its SO hard going through all the options!! GAH!
I love the idea of a P name too instead of just straight up naming her phyllis. I need to find out what her middle name was, isn't it sad that I don't know!?!?!?
