I have a PPB and love it! I actually have two - one with the regular cloth fabric which got dirty quickly (and you can't really wash them) and one with the wipeable fabric which I love. Worth every penny. Also, if you sign up for the PPB outlet emails you can get some really good deals.
I've been looking at Kate Spade or Marc Jacobs. Probably let DH have the final choice once I narrow it down to a couple. I don't want to get too girly on him.
The practicality of the PPB boxy backpack is unreal (I've never actually worn it as a backpack though). I freaking love mine. It's pretty trashed after two+ years though so I'm looking for a new style too. The waxed outer covering in the PPB is so nice to have. The cake one is gorgeous, but they aren't available in the wax coating, right? I might go with a weekender this time.
I hated my Petunia Pickle Bottom because the strap never stayed tight. I got a very large Kate Spade diaper bag that I love, but I would love it more if it cleaned easier. Milk stains suck.
I had a huge Coach diaper bag for my son, and I really liked it, but it was pretty big and sometimes annoying to carry on my shoulder. I'm thinking of a PBB this time or possibly a Marc Jacobs. There is also a very unrealistic part of me who wants to get a Louis Vuitton neverfull and buy one of those organizers for the inside. I know, I know...dumb.
I had a PBB and Timi & Leslie last time, and also one from Thirty One. I used the Thirty one bag the most, but the Timi & Leslie is my favorite. I use it as a laptop bag now. It's gorgeous.

NOT dumb! Genius!!! I'm a fancy bag lover myself, currently living in a Reed Krakoff someone gave me as a wedding gift!(because my bag love is pretty well known). I'm trying to figure out what make the perfect diaper bag, I definitely will choose function OVER fashion, but I'm sure there's a bag with both!
I couldn't ruin a designer bag with potential poop, vomit or feeding liquids.... but if I went "higher end", I'd probably go Lands End, just because that stuff is hardcore and I can repurpose it.

Honeybee-I have the Kate Spade stevie bag and after just a year the straps are already showing major wear, and the leather piece that attaches the handle to the bag itself is coming unraveled and coming off. Their bags are only warrantied for a year, so I'm a little bummed.
I like the Marc Jacobs nylon totes (they are narrow and not gigantic) and then you can get an insert for them to add pockets and keep stuff organized.

I have the kate spade Stevie bag as well. Though mine has held up great after 2 1/2 yrs.

Ohmmmggeee I love Reed Krakoff! One of our patients had one and I wanted it soooo bad. I'm just not in a position to fork out 1k on a bag yet that will be later in life. Until then I will live vicariously through you.

I have a PPB backpack - a wipeable one
I've had it for 3 1/2 years now and use it ALL The time and it still looks like new - LOVE it!
I have the Kate Spade Stevie as well. It's very functional and worked well for me... easy to clean too.
I'm eyeing some bags at Nordstrom right now since they're having their Half Yearly Sale...
