Opinions on BJ for initials. (Yes, another name post.. sorry!)

I know this board has been bombarded with name posts, but I need an opinion on something. My last name starts with a J. DH is not really wanting a name (for a boy or a girl) that starts with a B. Since we first got pregnant, he has said B names are off the table. I don't really think it's a big deal. There is a B name I really like and have told him I would like for him to at least consider it, which he said he likes the name and would.

So, how do you feel about a name with BJ as the initials? Big deal or no?

I went to high school with a boy who elected to go by "BJ" from his first and middle name. You would have thought it would have been a bigger deal, but it really wasn't. If it makes you feel better we have an O last name and our top name choices at the moment will lead to HO or BO. They'll survive.

Please just don't nickname him BJ. I think that would be bad once he got older.

I don't think it's a big deal AT ALL. I know guys who go by the initials BJ exclusively and it isn't made a big deal. So if your child's initials of first and last name are BJ (which they would probably never go by) then I don't think it should matter!

No, I don't think it's a big deal. We have a J last name, too. I think a B first name with J middle name is worse, and much more prone to getting the BJ nickname. But I guess I do use my first and last initials at work for a lot of things... Hmmm.

I still don't think it's a big deal.

Thanks, ladies. I am glad to know some people don't think it is a big deal. I think DH is coming around to the idea of a B name. His brother's name starts with B to make it even more funny.

Not a big deal at all. We also have a J last name and I wouldn't throw B names off the table.

I only knew my cousin by the name BJ. Actually that is what he was know by everyone. He was killed some years back an that name always reminds me of him. I do not think there is anything wrong with it at all.

My ex went by BJ all through high school (although he did switch to his first name in college), and was never picked on because of it. If I were you, I wouldn't start or encourage the nickname, but I seriously don't think it's a big deal for a boy.

Interestingly though...my SIL's initials are BJ and she HATES it. She was picked on in middle and high school because of it -- and I imagine it might have been worse if she weren't as pretty as she is.

I just went to a wedding where they had the bride and groom's initials strung up at the end of the aisle--together they said BJ. We snickered like 12-year-olds about it for half the weekend.

Technically, his initials will be B_J (middl name in the gap).... So I don't think it will be an issue

Eh. Kids will make fun of anything if they get a notion to do it. A name alone won't do it. If he's popular or at least well liked, it won't matter.

My friend named her son Bennett and his initials are BJ. No one has said anything about it. I would go with it.

My last name doesn't start with a J but DH name is John which we would like to use for a middle name if we have a boy. We have decided to play it safe and stay away from B names.

I don't think it's a big deal. But if your H is against it, then you might have a hard time convincing him.

I can give you a first hand opinion- I grew up with the initials BJ. Honestly- it really wasn't a big deal at all. From my entire childhood, I only remember one instance when I really got teased about it, I think in like 6th grade. Later on, in college, some friends called me Beej which was a cute nickname. I seriously wouldn't worry about it! Also, I will add my brothers also had the initials BJ and I think they got more heat from it, but it was all in good fun from their buddies. Never any mean comments or anything. They also had the nickname "Beej".

I wouldn't say he is "against it." I think his main concern is just the possibility of getting made fun of, so he was trying to stay away from the "BJ." I honestly had several friends growing up with the BJ initials, some even went by BJ, and I don't recall them getting made fun of. I guess we will see.
