  • Thanksgiving here was in October... so I am exempted right???? I'd better be, I've already been listening to Christmas music.

Also, never see the point to being offended or pissy that someone gets excited for Christmas in November. I just love Christmas. I can't help it. And it's not related to material things, it's the entire atmosphere. It begins to get cooler, and it snows, and I drink way more hot chocolate than I should, and I wear scarves, and there are lights, and things are pretty, and there are holiday activities. It's just a freakin' jolly season. It's contagious.

I agree completely! I don't put decorations up until after Thanksgiving, but we listen to Christmas music starting in November and wear Christmas Jammie's. I just love it so much!

  • I think Taylor sounded horrible singing last night at the CMA's, I don't think she's measures up to the talent of most country singers. I really think if she went on The Voice she wouldn't get a chair to turn. So that's my UO.

I actually enjoyed the red song with the other artists. Why do the cma's start so late. I am far too old. I cannot stay up and watch the whole thing. Same with shows that start at 9 or 10pm during the week.

I decorated the inside of our house last weekend because we have prior committments every weekend until after Thanksgiving. The first weekend in December we are celebrating Christmas with my brother who will be home and we're hosting so my house has to be "Christmas ready." We always put up our tree on Thanksgiving so I'm a bit ahead (the tree will still go up then.) I might decorate the outside the weekend of Thanksgiving or before. I don't want to be in 3' of snow doing it! Blah!  Also we keep out Christmas decor up until about the 2nd week of January. What I don't get is why people put up their Christmas decor on Christmas Eve? That doesn't make sense to me. I want to enjoy it because it's a hell of a lot of work to put that crap up!

I think the decorating on Christmas Eve thing came from when they cut fresh greenery and used candles in the tree and other stuff that wouldn't last.  So you did it on Christmas Eve so that you enjoyed your tree with its candles and then didn't burn the house down trying to illuminate a dried-out tree, and the greens lasted for the next week and a half for the 12 Days of Christmas--yeah, they come *after* Christmas.

  • I don;t like country music newer than Woody Guthrie.
Some day we should go to the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival together. We went every year when we lived in TX. It's free but you have to get to BFE OK. Arlo plays every few years there.

  • I have no opinion of Swifty either way except I like her style. I am over twice as old as her fan base. She isn't writing music for me or trying to sell me tickets to her shows. It would be like me bitching about what a terrible movie High School Musical is. I'm not the audience.

  • @Hyaline I completely understand that but it's the 21 century hahaha. A friend of mine does this every Christmas Eve. They cut down the tree, and decorate it on Christmas Eve then by New Year's it's down. Not enough time to enjoy it if you ask me!

Well, if we want to get into "why do we still do arcane XYZ holiday/cultural/whatever" tradition, we could be here all day.  Decorating really late isn't my thing, but if it's a longstanding family tradition, I'm just saying I get where it comes from.

  • The good news with the thankful FB feeds is that they only last on average of 9-13 days. No one ever seems to make it to day 30.

I don't mind Elf on a Shelf. We pulled him out for the first time last year when DD was 3 1/2. We did use him in the way everyone else uses him. He always just sits on the fireplace mantle and we tell him good night before bed each night. When DD would wake up she got excited to go find him because he always wanted to find somewhere more comfy to sleep. On Christmas morning she woke up with him sleeping next to her in her bed. She just loved that he was always "watching" her.

I love Taylor Swift. Like, really love her.

  • 2 things that the last page reminded me of:

    1. I realllllly wish people we knew sent us Christmas letters.  Especially the cousins on DHs side who think they are the most perfect people in the whole world.  It would be glorious.  In 2012 I really wanted to write an honest one--"We had a baby!  Hooray!  We also almost got divorced, Marisa lost her Dad, Grandma and Grandpa within 5 months and then felt frumpy and sad while dealing with PPD! Happy Holidays!"

    2. I'm really not sure I want to even put up my Christmas tree this year because N is a grabby little bugger.  I feel like decorating just the top 3 feet is silly.  We don't have a "theme" tree or anything like that, we have ornaments we've collected through the years that are all significant.  I'll still decorate the rest of the house, I just think a tree is too much temptation for a tiny person.

  • I love old country as well as some new. I don't like all the new new catchy stuff. I love me some don Williams and 70's country. But I love a lot of the 80s and 90s country.

I don't know what a lot of music people look like actually...usually I just like a song, pull them up on pandora or itunes and listen to them.  I always forget to check them out.  Like Mumford.  I didn't get why everyone kept saying "Mumford Beards" for the longest time.  I don't buy cds anymore so I don't take the time to check out what they actually look like.

  • Tall guys a bit thin with lean muscle - yum.  Big muscle guys - yuck.

@marissakathleen Chicfila has that effect on me - My Pleasure!  My pleasure!  Have a great day!  Plus polynesian sauce.

Jimmy Johns can suck it.  Their new delivery strategy sucks.  You can't become loved because of your delivery option (the only somewhat healthy option in my area), then take away everyone's delivery after 5 years, and expect to have the success you've had in the past.

The only sandwich from Subway that is delicious:  Turkey and bacon on wheat with light mayo, S&P, spinach, onions, green pepper, extra pickles.

@barefootcontessa Boo for removing your pic so quickly

Are we done talking about Taylor?  I thought she sounded great.  She shouldn't wear super shiny lip gloss because she looks slobbery-lipped.  I actually think she is very talented and beyond her years professionally, but a bit behind the curve with her perceived maturity level.  I cringe when she reacts to compliments - open mouth, look left, look right, look behind ERMAHERG JT said that?!  I can't believe it *gasp* *open mouth*

It sucks though, because they put the cameras on her constantly, so it's just setting her up to be annoying.  I wonder what it's like to have your every move picked on?

    Wait , that's for real a thing?

So no tiny Brad Paisley for you, huh?
Did you see Tim McGraw last night?  Man is tiny now, back in the day when he had some muscle and was built a little bit, yum.  Now that he is all tiny and super skinny, no thank you.

  • Blahh country music. I'm not a fan, generally.

Although, I like TSwift in a guilty-pleasure pop sort of way. But, um, I don't really think she qualifies as country anymore... ?

I dislike the overly early Christmas trend. Sure, if you want to put up your tree in September, whatever. I don't care. It's that it's EVERYWHERE else so early. I LOVE CHRISTMAS. I don't want to already be sick of it BEFORE it happens.

    LOUD NOISES!!!1!!!1!
  • *When do you guys think I'll take down my tree?  I have W's happy birthday banner strung across my living room from Sept 15, and it's lookin pretty good for my birthday in a week......

and maybe for DH's in April :-D

*IMO spending 3-5k towards chemo treatments on some pets would only decrease their quality of life and increase the misery.  This is situation in my case.

*Unrelated to the above: I think it's funny and appropriate when someone makes jokes about their shithead pets dying.  People get so offended, and I don't get it.  I always ask my dog if he wants grapes or extra dark chocolate when people are around, but in reality I took him to the emergency clinic to the tune of $300 when he actually broke in to some milk chocolate last year :-p  I just told him that an antifreeze smoothie would improve his complexion.  He's not offended, why are you?  Bwa!

I tell my fluffballs daily to STHU and that they are going to have their barkbox (its a thing in my house) ripped out. If they shit the wrong color I rush them to the vet.

It drives me nuts when people start holiday stuff now.  I'm not talking about doing a little Christmas shopping or pre-addressing the cards or whatnot.  But getting "into the season" before Thanksgiving pisses me off.  Thanksgiving is a holiday.  Can we celebrate it and then enjoy the Christmas season?

Also, the traditional Christmas season lasts until the flipping 6th of January so knock off with the tearing everything down on Dec. 26.  You're only tired of it because you started too damn soon.
I totally agree.  I actually like Thanksgiving more than Christmas, so I don't like that it gets passed over.
I don't get how putting up a Christmas tree in your house means that Thanksgiving is getting passed over. I'm not going to bring a turkey into my house to decorate or something ;) I don't have any 'fall' decorations and wanted to decorate my apartment with something. We don't host Thanksgiving at our house and no one sees our tree besides us so I don't really get why you guys care. If it was outside and you had to look at it? Sure, I could see that. Inside hidden away? Nope.
I'm not a huge Christmas person (and it gives me slight anxiety), so I think that's why I don't get into the "spirit" until after Thanksgiving.  I like having the defined month of time to decorate for each.  I put fall decorations up in September and they stay up until after Thanksgiving.  I don't "really" care how other people celebrate or decorate, but it does annoy me slightly when the day after Halloween people are going Christmas crazy.  And I'm referring more to the constant Christmas talk on Facebook, not so much that people are decorating in their own homes.  I'm also the person who gets annoyed when in early August people are talking about fall and Halloween.

  • Cabbage rolls are gross.

(pulling from another thread) I think leaf blowers are wasteful and stupid.

I also find drive-throughs environmentally irresponsible. However, I have gained an appreciation for them since having a child. So my revised thought is that they should only be for use by parents with children and those with a physical disability. Laziness is not a valid reason to use the drive-through.
  • Also from another thread. I don't get Miranda Lambert. I have rarely recognized her songs, is she really a big deal? Why?

  • I don't like skinny legs, but a fit leg? Yeah. something...thick. DH has hot calves. IDC if that's creepy.
DH has hot calves too!  He thinks it is weird that I like them but I do.

Teeter totter rule went out the window two months ago for us.  If being on the ground is "grounds for divorce" (SWIDT?)  Then we are getting all kinds of divorced.  :(
