Question for moms of uncircumcised boys

I'm wondering if there are any other moms with a similar experience. This is not to start a debate about circumcision vs. not doing circumcision.  :)

Yesterday, we took my son, who is 3 years old to the pediatrician because we didn't know what the heck was going on with his penis. When he woke up that morning to go pee, his penis was bulged out on the side and remained that way after he peed and for several hours. The bulge was a little on the hard side, and my son said it hurt when pressure was put on it; however, he did not act like he was in any pain...there was also no redness. The pediatrician wanted to consult with a pediatric urologist and later called us saying the ped urologist wanted my son to be seen on Monday. When I got home that evening with my son (about 6 hours after he was seen by the doctor), his penis was back to normal. He went pee at school and at home with no problem. His teachers, who do not need to help him in the bathroom, said he never complained about anything penis related that day. He woke up this morning, and again, had a normal penis. The only thing it is doing is "ballooning" when he pees, but his penis goes back to normal after he is doing peeing. I have seen it do this in the past but never thought anything of it since it never caused any problems or stayed that way. Since I didn't know what was actually happening when he was peeing, I started researching what this is called and found several articles that talked about "ballooning."  It appears this is a natural thing that happens when a boy is not circumcised.  What concerned me is that it stayed that way for several hours yesterday; however, I don't know if it's actually anything to be concerned about since he is peeing, acting normal, tells me his penis does not hurt when I ask him about it, and it looks perfectly normal now.  I'm attaching an article I found on the subject of ballooning, but I still cannot find anything talking about it lasting several hours.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about and have any experience with a bulge being there for a longer period and then going back to normal?  I hope this makes sense....lol:)

  • It happens and its completely normal. It is just part of the deattaching process. He could always push the foreskin forward a little to make sure all of the pee has left the foreskin/glans area. As long as he isnt in pain, I would leave him alone. I wouldnt even seek a urologist at this point.
