Pregnant after 35

Heart palpitations?

For the last week or so I am having heart palpitations.  It feels like my heart skips a beat and when it finally does beat it is 3x as hard. I can feel it in my neck and throughout my chest. Doesnt seem to be in relation to stress or mild exercise. Mostly when I am sitting quietly or lying down.  I dr googled it and seems it is fairly common during pregnancy but I havent ever heard about something like this before and it is freaking me out.
I have a regular appt tommorrow and will bring it up but in the meantime anyone else have this "symptom"?

Re: Heart palpitations?

  • I have this going on, as well.  BUT, I've had it for years.  I've been checked out a few times and everything comes up as normal!  It will freak you out for sure.  The first time I experienced it, I was at a baseball game and my whole body was shaking with every pump.  I thought, "This is how I'm going to go... right here at a ball game!"  It didn't hurt or anything, but I thought maybe I was having a heart attack.  Lasted about 30 full seconds.  The ones now and since only last maybe 2 seconds.  Good luck, but don't worry.  I think it really is common.

  • Very common, it's been happening my entire pregnancy. I know it feels scary but my dr said nothing to worry about. :)

  • I just recently had the same thing happening. It seemed that as soon as I hit my second trimester I could feel my heart beating when I laid down and sat certain ways. Sometimes it felt like my heart was just working extra hard and i think that is what it is. Went to Dr. and she put me on a heart monitor for 24 hours, which you can ask for just to be on the safe side. She also tested my blood and found out I was slightly anemic and magnesium was a little low - both can cause increased heart flutter feelings. I just got my heart monitor results back and they were fine. I have been taking iron supplements along with my prenatals and trying to eat pumpkin seeds for magnesium. I feel the heart issues have lessened...could be just that my body has gotten used to the extra blood and work :)
  • I've been going through this since I started Procardia but a cardiovascular specialist added Labetalol to ease up the heart palpitations and fast heart rate. I've been diagnosed with trachycardia. I feel a whole lot better now that I'm not going through it and hoping it eases up after I have my baby next week.
