Another anatomy scan for lower extremities?

I had my anatomy scan ultrasound Friday and the nurse called me today that the doctor couldn't see my baby's lower extremities due to its position.  They will schedule me for another ultrasound in a week or two.  Has anyone had a similar experience?  I'm trying not to worry and was hoping to find out if my baby is doing okay this week.  On the positive side, we will see the baby again for a bit.  The downside with Kaiser radiology is we only see for the last few minutes.  Thank you for your input.

I think a few other ladies have had follow up ultrasounds. I have one in 3 weeks because they couldn't get a good picture of the heart due to fetal position. I was worried so I called and my doc explained it better. He said he wasn't worried and didn't see anything "wrong" but without a good picture its like putting his hand behind your back and asking how many fingers he's holding up.

    Edit to clarify

  • I have a follow up ultrasound because they couldn't get a good look at his spine.  I'm not worried--sometimes the babies just don't get into a good position for the ultrasound.

  • I had my AS last week and am going back this afternoon, hoping baby cooperates so they can get a picture of back of the neck.  Seems like re-visits are a fairly common occurrence, I wouldn't worry!

I have a follow up ultrasound first of Dec b/c we didn't get half the measurements we needed since my little man obviously thought he was a member of the circus. I saw my OB yesterday and she said everything was fine and it was more common than you think to have to go back and finish up the measurements. I also found out from what they could measure my baby is healthy and measuring at or ahead of where he should be.

  • I have another one in 4 weeks to get measurements of the profile (and hopefully determine the gender!). My baby spent the whole time facing my back, which was great for spine and internal organ measurements, but not so great for seeing the face. So relax, it's totally normal!
  • I have to have a follow up. Baby has been stubborn, this is now the second ultrasound where they can't get good shots because the baby is curled up and won't let anyone see. Hopefully, at my next one they'll get everything they need.

  • Thank you all for your feedback!  It is very helpful and comforting.  I will keep you guys posted what they find. :)

  • I had a level 2 U/S with this one and my last.
If they are having trouble getting a measurement, they had me cough, roll side-to-side, elevate my hips, stand up...whatever would help make LO get up and change position.
The tech rubbed the wand over my belly in one spot repeatedly to get LO to move last week.

I've never had to do a revisit.
But, my U/Ss take about an hour start, to finish, including a radiology doc double checking and talking to us for 5 minutes.
  • I have kaiser too! I'm having my follow up on Friday, we didn't get three seperate measurements! It's pretty common with babes who are cozy and don't want to move.

  • LO was in the wrong position last week. They told me to go eat something and come back in an hour to see if he moved. It worked.

  • My LO was in the breech position during our A/S. They rescheduled us for 6 weeks later (December 2nd).  6 WHOLE WEEKS!! Feels like eternity.

  • I had my a/s Monday and my little girl (btw) was sleepy and wouldn't move so we have to go back in 4 weeks for more spine measurements. I am not worried but it has made me think about her level of activity more. I hope to start feeling her more soon. The tech said the brain and what she could see of the spine looked perfect but they want a definite measurement to be sure.

  • I have my anatomy scan tomorrow and I've been worried because I haven't felt the baby move.  These posts are at least making me feel better that it might be normal not to feel the baby move yet.  Also, unfortunately, it's also making me realize tomorrow may not bring the huge sigh of relief I'm looking for but that it won't mean that things aren't ok.
  • I haven't felt my baby move either. At the A/S on Monday, I found out I have an anterior placenta and the baby is facing my back. No wonder I haven't felt movement yet! She was wiggling her hands and feet plenty on the screen, though. I hope it's something similar for you!
  • Thank you for the encouragement!
