Baby Showers

Food!

I'm hosting a shower and I'm having a hard time deciding on what to serve.
The shower will be at 2 in the afternoon. And will be in a hotel "party room".
Also I live two hours away. So things will have to be transported.

Any suggestions?

  • Since the shower is at 2, most of the guests would have probably had lunch by then. My suggestion is to do a cracker and cheese/ham tray and just the desserts. Drinks as well of course.

  • I feel like I've been living in Pinterest. But still don't know how I want to tackle it. There is a fridge and a sink I believe. So anything hot would have to be crockpot and cold would have to be ok being in the car two hours and then it could be in a fridge for an hour before the party.
  • I would probably plan something like:

Meatballs or spinach artichoke dip in the crockpot
    Pasta salad
Meat/cheese/cracker tray, or if you want to get creative, meat/cheese/tomato/tortellini kabobs
Fruit salad, fruit kabobs, or a fruit tray with yogurt or caramel dip
    Veggie tray with dip

I would stay away from a cheese and ham tray personally.  Although all the guests will have probably had lunch.... a pregnant Mom-To-Be probably won't eat cheese or lunch meat that is sitting out at room temp for an hour or two.  At least I wouldn't.  ---- Yes, I eat both soft cheese and lunch meat while I was pregnant.  I just wouldn't eat either of those that were sitting out at room temp.

    Just my two cents.

  • For my sisters (at 2:30), we did pasta salad (with pepperoni), veggie/fruit tray and went all out on dessert. You could make a fruit salad instead of a tray with purple grapes, blueberries, strawberries and pineapple and that would kinda match the 'girly purple theme'. As long as you transport the food in a cooler with a little ice they'll be ok.  I would make sure the dessert ties into the theme (we had pea pod cookies), and not stress too much. Planning a shower when you don't live local can be a nightmare! She's lucky to have you!

  • If you don't have cooler room to transport like meat and cheese trays or a fruit tray, you could even look into what the local grocery stores do there, catering-wise. One of our local stores does awesome, cute party trays, and they aren't expensive at all, if budget is a concern.
