Preemies

preemie wrap?

So we're finally home (6 weeks and 6 days later) and while at the doctor today, she suggested we get a wrap or a baby bjorn to wear our little guy when we go out so he's exposed to less people during RSV season.  Do you have any suggestions? Do any of you use anything you think the baby loves? We live in Texas and although it's not hot right now, it won't last for long so something that breathes would be nice.  oh, and our little guy is exactly 7 pounds.

Re: preemie wrap?

  • I used a Moby wrap mostly and a Bundleboo (a woven wrap) when she got a little bigger and for certain holds.  I never liked the carrier (DH uses one) because they always hurt my back.  The wraps were super comfortable and awesome!

  • We haven't got any wrap/carrier yet as our LO is JUST under the 8lb limit most wraps seem to have. I have read that the k'tan and ergo with infant insert are great.
  • My DD loves the moby. I wear her in it when we go to the supermarket or target. No one has ever tried to touch her while I'm wearing it. I've heard the k'tan is similar to the moby but with less fabric, so I've thought about getting one but I already have the moby and the ergo, so I probably won't be getting it.

  • The moby or k-tan are great for the early days.  If you can, ask your friends to borrow or do craigslist (seems like there are tons for sale there).  We outgrew ours at about 4 months, and I was bummed, but it worked really well for a tiny baby.  If you want something that lasts longer, consider an Ergo with an infant insert (if you live in a cold climate only) or maybe a Beco.  Ask the Attachment Parenting board.  They seem to be experts.
  • I had a moby for the early days and a Beco Gemini for when she was bigger. LOVED the Beco and used it until she started crawling/walking.
  • I have a Bjorn and use it for prob an hour or two everyday. Sometimes it's the only way to get him to nap during the day! I have noticed that my back hurts sometimes after wearing it tho... If I was to wear him more often I'd prob get an ergo, I've heard nothing but great things.
  • Thanks everybody!
  • I love my Ergo. We used the infant insert since she was so tiny.

  • We started with the k'tan breeze which is super easy and very breathable (we are in TX also). I really recommend it as a first carrier. It's half stretchy wrap, half gauze. Now that it's colder, we just put the stretchy wrap part around her.

  • Love, love, love the Ergo. The infant insert is made out of a heavy material (almost like down or something) so our LO got too hot with it but you can always roll up a towel or blanket and use it instead. Keep in mind he's also right next to you so he's getting all your body heat. I have a habit if overdressing him. Enjoy!!!
