Trying to Get Pregnant

In a Wondfo HPT predicament...

So I was browsing the amazon.com reviews of the Wondfo pregnancy tests and thought I'd amuse myself and look at all the angry one star reviews. Low and behold I found two recent (within the last 3-4 weeks) reviews of people who had taken their entire packet of tests and got negative results on every single one when they were in fact pregnant (confirmed with other brands). I checked my bag of tests I ordered from amazon in September and I have the exact same batch that these people are talking about. I contacted amazon in hopes they would have some information if the batch was bad but they just offed to refund my purchase (sweet!) and sent me on my way. I looked on google and found another poster here on the boards had posted a question with the same in question lot number... I left a reply on her post so I'm hoping she might have found some info. Has anyone had this problem with Wondfo's or heard of it? I was supposed to start my period today but still nothing so if it's not here my tomorrow morning I'm going to break out the emergency FRER and take it. Why is the universe messing with me like this? Lol! Thanks ladies and have a great weekend!

My batch of tests is Lot #W00121124-3 EXP:11/2014. I took a FRER this morning and it was a BFN so technically they Wondfo's aren't wrong but I think I'll be skeptical using this batch in the future just based on the reviews

  • Dang it, those are the ones I have too.  I'll have to look further into it.

Is it an issue just with the hcg tests or also with the lh tests?  My lh tests are from a different batch, obviously, but now I wonder if what I thought was user error was actually test error.

  • @allygirl520 No way! I'm sorry :( I just told them that I had read a review that the same batch I was sent was bad and wanted to know if they had any record of it being recalled. They didn't give me any information, just straight up offered the refund. I would tell them that you got some information that they may possibly be defective and would like to exchanage them. Just make sure you push them to waive shipping or whatever if they do an exchange, it's not your fault they are bad. Good luck!!

@jolaine83 The ones I have are the hcg ones... I thought that perhaps I was getting a test error too but AF arrived so technically the tests aren't wrong. I will still be very doubtful using them based on what I've heard though... Hope this helps! We need the HPT's working in our favor not against us for gods sake! haha! :)

  • Crap... That's the batch I just got (my 1st batch ever at that!). I am wondering if I should go buy a FRER. I've been getting nothing but stark white negatives: 2 blue dye from the dollar store from a long time ago (I know, I know, do NOT use blue dye) and 3 of these batch of Wondfo's. But I've got no sign of AF on CD 40.

Let's be honest, I'm grasping at straws to explain this insanely long cycle. Ugh... Just sucks that things like this have the ability to give you a false sense of hope.

  • @MeatandBandP would amazon refund money if there wasn't a problem?  Real question, no snark.

I'll admit, I'm half tempted to waste a test on dipping it in coke since that is supposed to be a guaranteed positive.  I was also wondering what the problem was exactly.  As a PPer said, they were correct for me so far since it was a BFN last month.

I think I'll still be backing it up with a cheapie of another brand once I hit 14DPO just to make sure.

  • @MeatandbandP I think this might be more of what the OP was talking about.

But you are right in the fact that there are as many (if not more) reviews of false positives than false negatives.  Sums it up for me: Wondfo isn't as trustworthy as it used to be.  I'll have to start looking for another option and back up testing if AF doesn't show this month.

  • I am going to weigh in and say that the wondfos I had were not as sensitive ast FRER.  I had negative wondfos and when my FRER was positive.  It could be that it was still too early for a positive on a wondfo when these wome took the tests.

  • @twinkie0612  Total stupid question: what brands are FRER?  I've only used the old school wondfo (DD) and what was locally available (with DS).  Are the FRER the ones with the pink dye?

@MeatandBandP Thanks for clarifying things.  When I was TTC for DD, the wondfo ones were supposedly the best so I just assumed they still were.  I thought they were just a steal.  One more area that you get what you pay for.

  • My batch of Wondfos was reported for false positives & also not as sensitive as a FRER. I would agree with @MeatandBandP, the false negatives are probably being reported by women that are testing early. I wasn't able to turn a Wondfo until a day after my positive FRER.

Also, yes Amazon would refund even if there wasn't a problem. It's pretty damn easy to get a refund, especially on a low cost item, from Amazon.

  • @MeatandbandP that wasn't the review that I had originally read, I hadn't even seen that one actually now that I think about it more. The one that I first saw was the one @Jolaine83 found. I have not a clue what the women who were unhappy about the tests did in terms of testing early, late whatever, I just saw that was the batch I had and it concerned me. Who knows if the entire batch is actually bad or if the women testing in the reviews weren't doing it correctly but after finding a few weird things about it I thought I would start asking around. I was honestly surprised when Amazon offered my money back, I would have rather had an answer if the batch was or was not in fact defective, lol. Now this time they weren't defective for me as far as I know cause they gave me a BFN when in fact I was not pregnant so, there I have it, lol. I still think that I will probably use them but take it with a grain of salt. I would absolutely back up any answer I got, positive or negative, with a FRER or other more reliable test.

FRER is a First Response Early Response, yes they are pink dye.  I had heard for years on this board that wondfos were just as sensitive as FRER, but in my experience that was not the case.

It could be that they have made them less sensitive now.  Although I will say that I got a faint line (really hard to see, super squinter) on a wondfo at 13 DPO and my beta was only 14.6, so that is still pretty darn sensitive.

  • I have this batch of wondfos.  I had some weirdness with a couple of them a few days ago - I haven't used wondfos before (this is my first cycle TTC) and I took one at 5DPO just to see the stark negative... but then I actually got a wicked evap(?)/false positive that showed up after the 5 min time limit, but before an hour or so had passed.  I took one again the next day, same thing happened again!  I used one today though and it was absolutely 100% negative, no evaps hours later or anything.

  • The last batch I bought were major squinters, but I had a chemical so I don't think my hcg levels got very strong to begin with. I ordered a pack of 50 on Amazon (yes, another prime luva here ladies) last month and thankfully they have a different lot # & expiry. I like the wondfos when I have the urge to pee on something but don't want to spend $4-6 a piece. Last cycle I got a faint line at 11dpo with FMU, and I confirmed after a 2hr hold later with a FRER and another wondfo. I would have taken one right away but I thought it was a negative at first so I dumped my pee already. The wondfos are still really sensitive, but I got a darker line on the FRER.
