Tubes Tied?

So, I'm 95% sure I'm done having kids. I do not think I could handle another kid at all and the thought of pregnancy again just doesn't appeal to me. I've talked things over with SO and he seems on board. His only big beef is not getting to use a baby name. Which to me isn't a big deal since we both kind of are in the same boat with the kid situation. So, I'd love to hear about getting your tubes tied. SO wants to get a vasectomy as well, I just want to be extra protected and yearn to be off of hormonal BC. So, any experience from you lovely ladies would be wonderful. Thank you!

Re: Tubes Tied?

  • If you're not 100% sure, I would let your SO get the big V and then use condoms or a different form of non-hormonal BC (if you can do that) until you are 100% sure.

  • Oh I know. I have a few months left of BC before I make up my mind. I'm just in the early stages.

  • You should be 100% sure for either a V or tubes tied. V reversal is expensive and has a high failure rate. We are in the same position as you, we're 99% sure (more like 100) but the thought of a permanent BC makes us both feel sad.

H has a vasectomy booked Nov 29th but we may cancel as I might be having surgery. If I have to have the surgery I'll have my TT at the same time.

  • Dh had a v and we are still waiting for the clear. It's only been two months so condones it is. I will be making him get checked once at least maybe twice a year for sperm. I've been on hormonal pills for 14 years I'm over birth control. I would do tubes tied also but he doesn't want me having to go through more

  • I had essure done. It can be done in the ob's office and recovery is easy. DH also had a vasectomy. Obviously wait until you are 100% ready, but definitely check it out.

I think that's why I said what I said. I know I'm done having kids. Just the thought of permanent scares me and makes me a little sad. I do not think a 3rd would do well for us at all. I want us both to get snipped though so we're both well covered.

  • My cousin was 100 percent done, but suffered really badly emotionally and had horrible menstrual cramps and periods after. I would look into essure.

I googled essure reviews and I found a high amount of bad.

That's what I've read/seen as well. I was thinking the more traditional route over Essure. Plus SO getting the big V when we can afford it so we're ultra protected. Since I know there's a chance of failure with the tubes being tied.

  • I know where around the same ageish and we're 90% sure we're only having 2. My personal guideline is 30. If we are still 90% sure when I'm 30 we will do something permanent. I know right now 3 doesn't seem doable, but who know how I'll feel in 6 years?

Right now is NOT a good time for me to have another so I have a Paragard. It's like 98% effective without hormones so that's what we're going with until we are 100% we want another.

I think my big issue is I don't think my body could handle another pregnancy. My pelvis still has issues nearly a year later. Plus a 3rdsection since no hospitals here allow VBA2C . There is a slew of reasons as to why I'm sure we're done. I cannot do paragard as I'm allergic to most metals. I do get the whole 30 thing though. It does seem pretty nuts to be barely in my mid twenties and already closed shop.

  • I'm 26, dh is 28 and I get preggo very easy. so we knew we didn't want to start over again after the kids were a little older. I would not want a newborn when my kids are finally old enough to sttn always. I selfishly want my sleep and to travel with dh while still young.

  • I had my tubes tied after this baby but I had it done during my c section so I can't really offer any experience since I know yours would be different.  My doctor was ok doing it because of my age (not that I'm ancient but I'm 34 and even IF I did want another baby it wouldn't have been for like, 3 more years and I wouldn't want to do that again at 37) and the fact that I was sure we were sure :)

Have you talked to a doctor about this? Does age come into play? I've heard that some doctors won't do permanent birth control for younger patients but I have zero idea if this is true.

This is true. My friend who is also 24 has an 8 yo and a 1 yo. She got PG at 16 then they had their second last year. She doesn't want any more because of spacing and health issues. She had a RCS and her OB wouldn't do her tubes. So her H (who is younger than her) got a V with no issues.

I've been offered it a few times since having Rosie. They offered it at my section, but I wasn't sure then. Unless they'll tell me I'm too young now :P. Since I actually want one. I'm going to talk to my OB about it though. See what she says.
