May 2013 Moms

I know it's not Wednesday, but seriously, WTF?!

The last couple nights S has woken herself up by either peeing on herself and/or pooping on herself before we go to bed. Naturally, we change her diaper, feed her, and put her back to sleep. Well tonight, we put her into her crib as usual, and she started screaming at us. Not crying, but screaming...for the next half an hour. Meanwhile, DH, thinking we were just going to put her to bed and she would go to sleep as usual, climbed into bed, reassuring me that he would come in at the regularly scheduled intervals if she didn't stop screaming. He skipped the 5 minute interval...and then the 10 minute one...luckily S fell asleep before the 15 minute interval. I went to our room, which is right across from her room, and what do I find? DH is PASSED THE F*** OUT. Seriously? WTF. How in holy hell can you sleep through a baby screaming at the top of her lungs for half an hour? And now here I am, wide awake because I'm grumpy. If he complains tomorrow about being tired, I think he'll be on the couch for the foreseeable future...okay, vent over, time to try and sleep...until S wakes up again.

    Our husbands must be related.

ETA: I'm still mad. C is sick and super whiny. Last night at 4 am he wakes up with a fever. We try to eat, snuggle, give some Tylenol, and he won't sleep. DH offers to take him since I've been sick too and haven't slept in days-- DH's offer apparently meant "I'll hold him and sleep while he cries." I told him if he took C he had to make some sort of an effort to console him-- to which he replied, "if it bothers you, you should go downstairs so you can't hear him." WTF? Sure, I'll sleep on the sofa while you sleep and my sick baby cries upstairs. Awesome idea.

  • If it makes you feel better, DH hasn't woken up to the baby crying since literally week 1. Yes, week one. He sleeps the sleep of the dead I swear. It took everything in me not to yell at him when he complained about being tired with the time change and LO had been up 3x during the night and he never moved.

  • That was us last night exactly. DH, who hasn't taken the night shift in weeks, offered to do it last night. He gave up sometime around 3 ish and of course R is a complete mess and so is the nursery (seriously what the hell were you doing in the closet at 2am?) so I got stuck with a screaming baby from 4-530. I text him "thanks for trying" and he replied "what? I was up with him!" He had no idea of what happened. Didn't the baby in our bed give it away? It's not like a 5 month old can walk in here.
  • Seriously. This "special" ability to sleep has only magically appeared since S was born. He used to wake up whenever the dogs moved, he'd hear a random noise, etc etc. Since S was born, he's now slept through the dog jumping off the bed and needing help to get back up, the baby screaming her head off, and now even his alarm. I just don't understand!

This, my husband offered one night but fell asleep I was so mad. I told him there could be a war going outside our room and you still would be snoring.

  • it's gotta be the time change...at least that's what i'm telling myself because then I have hope she'll re-adjust.

  • Soooo true, mine gets up, swearing and walking into walls. It's quite comical. I'd rather he go back to sleep than half-a$$ help. My lo was up at 4am and did not go back until 6. Mommy did not go back to sleep...

**having this extra hour is good for starting an exercise routine (I swear) :)

  • I am with you on this, DH doesn't wake up for his "turn" and with all the effort it takes to wake him, explain to him what is happening and what he needs to do (yes, now you have to pick up the baby and feed him...yes, just hold him in your lap..the bottle is here...seriously...just put it in his mouth)  ...that I might as well do it myself.

  • *raises hand*  Mine is the same blasted way!  So annoying.  We were all in our bedroom one evening talking.   My daughter and I were playing with Cavin on the bed, my husband laid there and fell asleep.  How the heck he did that I don't know because we were not being quiet at all.   In fact Cavin scooted over to him and started chewing on his hand and playing with the fabric on his pants.  He slept right through it, in fact he had no clue any of it went on till I told him.
