If you could change one thing.....

Re: If you could change one thing.....

  • I would have asked my doula to come to our house when I first called her. It would have been nice to have her help getting through contractions instead of the short 18 minutes at the hospital before giving birth. She was still worth every penny, but I would have liked to have pain management guidance during the active labor and transition.

Ugg...same thing happened to me. My right side was almost too numb, my left side felt everything.

I wish I would have waited another few days to be induced. She was only 7lbs, and I just don't think she was done cooking! (She's 100% awesome and growing like a weed, I just think she would have come on her own time.)
    Married since 10-2-2010!!

  • Does it count as a regret if you know you'd do it again next time? If yes - then the weight gain.
  • Nothing. I try to subscribe to the "don't borrow worry or regret" philosophy.

I would have read more books about infant care instead of about pregnancy. It would have been much more useful.

This. I definitely felt like I was playing catchup the first few weeks. Also I would've been more conservative with our budget if I'd known for sure I was gonna get laid off. I was pretty careful as it was, but I'm sure we could've done more. Oh and I would've prepared for the cost of newborn photos better. They sprung it on us in the hospital and we kinda got taken for a ride bc I was stressed and vulnerable.

  • I don't really regret this, but I would have saved myself some pain if I had mentioned to the nurse right away when I noticed that I could feel her hands when she checked my cervix, even after the epidural. I could have had it redone and then I might not have been able to feel my vag ripping apart when I pushed him out. :)
  • I don't have any regrets but I do have things I wish had happened differently. I wish I hadn't got GD. I wish I hadn't been induced. I wish I had had my hypno birth. I wish I hadn't gone into hyper labour. I wish LO hadn't got so distressed and needed emergency delivery. I wish she was breathing before 10 minutes and I wish they had known she wasn't engaged at all and had the cord around her neck.

Oh and I lie, I do have one regret. I wish I had waited to buy what wasn't essential for LO because we have ended up not using quite a few things, or found other things/models that were better and could have saved the money.

  • I wish I had gotten my "Braxton hicks" checked out sooner.. I will always regret thinking my contractions were nothing. Had I gotten checked earlier in the week they may have been able to stop my labour.. Instead DS was born 6 weeks premature and spent a month in the NICU and we've been dealing with various problems since. He's overall healthy and happy and I'm so grateful, but if he wasn't early he wouldn't have all of his little problems - terrible reflux, hernias requiring surgery, kidney reflux, terrible jaundice, and more..
I will always regret thinking they were "nothing" and not getting checked out sooner.
  • I would have done maternity photos. I always thought we'd have 2. After near death experiences for dd and me, we've decided she's all we need.
I would have pushed the high blood pressure issue harder.
I wish I could have had a vaginal delivery, but the way my pelvis is formed it never would have happened.

  • I only took 1 belly shot during the whole 10 months. I felt fat, and didn't want to document that. Now I wish I had.

I wish we had recorded the delivery. I'm just curious to see how things looked from an outside perspective. That's not a big deal though...

  • Not a thing! I loved my MW's, they were my advocates. And my birth was great, my mom was able to be there. I am so thankful she was! I was actually 8-9cm dilated and my mom had yet to show up at the hospital (my labor was really fast. I started out at 3cm and my labor lasted about 6 hrs, I literally gained a cm every hour lol) I was so close to needing to push but I refused to have the baby before my mom got there. My mom showed up shortly after and my body went quickly to 10cm :) At the end, my mom said I beat her bc she always had 7 hr labors with us. My mom and I are so alike and I love that :)

  • I would have read more parenting books before LO arrived and less labor books!

And I would have booked a newborn photographer. We've taken lots of great photos, but it would have been nice to have a professional set. We'll be doing a family session in the late spring when LO is around 8 or 9 months.
