A little background...
I am a FTM 22 weeks 1 day pregnant with boy/girl twins. Everything had been going without a hitch until today....
Today we had a doctor's appointment with the perinatologist and our OBGYN. Well....each of the twins have each gained about a pound in 5 weeks. They now weigh 1 pound 5 ounces and 1 pound 6 ounces. This puts them still in/above the 90th percentile! But with that came a little concern. They have too much fluid right now. This means their placentas are working overtime. There is a concern of a placenta rupture and also pre-term labor. Due to this, I will now be going every week to see the perinatologist and every 2 weeks to see the OBGYN for at least this month. They will monitor my cervix, the babies, and the fluid. They also mentioned me possibly having gestational diabetes due to the babies being large and this sometimes causes the extra fluid. But it is a little early to test. They said after a few weeks of these weekly checks, if nothing has changed for the better or things get worse, they will test me for it early. But otherwise everything looked good! The babies are moving and grooving away in there! Our little boy is high up in my ribs and our little girl has dropped down and is quite low. My OBGYN pulled out the tape measure again and he shook his head and said "nevermind" and didn't even tell me how far ahead I am measuring! Last time it was 8 weeks ahead so I am guessing at least that if not more since he wouldn't tell me!
Before this, my biggest fear was missing any pre-term labor signs and being too late to do anything about. Now knowing this, I am even more concerned and worried. I am very thankful that I will be going to be checked weekly but could use all the positive thoughts I can get!!!!
Re: Positive Thoughts Needed
I also had high amniotic fluid with both girls. My MFM put me on a low carb/high protein diet to lower the amniotic fluid. Carbs and sugar create more water. I was put on the diet at 24 weeks and was able to control my AFI. I was taken off the diet last Thursday to hopefully put more weight on baby A (she's falling behind her sister). Since then I've put on like 5 pounds in less then a week. Too many carbs and sugar so I'll be watching that again but eating lots more protein.
I was given my GD test early and passed. Ask your doc about cutting carbs to help with the amniotic fluid. BTW - I've been on MBR since 24 weeks.
Good luck!

Our B had high fluid from 16wks onward, while A had low fluid and we were already being watched for TTTS since they're mo/dis. I was put on MBR by 25wks because of this and PTL. I had weekly appointments, NSTs, and u/s and our boys arrived healthy at exactly 37wks with only 1/2lb difference in their weight. The fluid levels stayed constant at 8-9 and 2-3 so the doctors figured that was our babies' norms for whatever reason. It's good they're keeping a close eye on you. Best wishes!
