LO's spazzy movements have me paranoid

Good morning! I will begin by saying that I have looked this up and asked my doctor about it a while back, but I get a lot of comfort from knowing my December 13 ladies share the same experiences as me (more comforting than the the rando on BabyCenter from '07 when I google at least). Do any of your LOs occasionally make spazzy, twitchy, shuddering (etc) like movements? It doesn't happen a lot, but every now and then it's like I feel her shake or move a limb rapidly for a few seconds (it's always super short). I know it's not hiccups (I know what that feels like) - the super anxious/irrational side of me gets scared that she's having a seizure or something but I realize the likelihood of this is very low. I'm going to bring it up again at my appointment on Wednesday, but I just wanted to get some other perspectives until then. TIA!

Re: LO's spazzy movements have me paranoid

  • It's probably just regular movement. Until babies are approximately 6 months to 9 months old they have a very sensitive startle reflex, you'll see it when he/she is born and the slightest thing can trigger it. It's most likely what is happening on the inside too. It can be like the movie Alien in there towards the end. Of course talk to your OB but sounds like normal fetal development.

  • I also have felt that - no idea what it is.  It never occured to me there could be anything wrong - this is my second pregnancy.

  • It's totally normal. I don't really know what baby is doing when it happens, but it happens to me all the time and has with every pregnancy.

  • I feel that all the time. I agree with Mavgirl and think its baby's normal startle reflex.
  • It happens to me too.

  • I'm jealous of you. My LO's movements have deceased so much I would love to feel something intense. I've gone from forceful kicks to only the odd swooshing feeling.

  • I've felt that with all 3 pregnancies. So far 2 of the 3 have come out fine and never did anything similar after birth.

  • I was wondering the same thing!! It feels like she's twitching inside. Aw can't wait to meet her, less than 6 more weeks!!
  • I had it with L, but not this one. It does feel weird, but everything was a-ok!

  • Yup, alien spawn girl goes spastic often. I keep expecting an arm to rip through. Hahaha. Completely normal.
  • My little guy does that too! I asked the ultrasound tech about it when I had my 30 week one, and she said it's from all the neurological connections being made. Because the brain is making so many new connections as it develops, the baby's body sometimes responds with those weird twitches. She said it's totally normal and healthy! (That made sense in my head and put my mind at ease.) Hope it does for yours as well :)
  • I have had these too! One the other day where I literally thought what the hell?!? My kid keeps trying to exit from the left side of my stomach-something is always pushing lol!

  • Lurking from Jan14 board. Spoke to my doctor about this 2 weeks ago as I was also concerned and he was it was normal and not to worry :)
