Reusing bottles or buy new glass bottles

DD #1 will be 2.5 when new LO arrives. I don't know if it's OK to reuse her plastic bottles (I will replace the nipples) or if I should buy new? I can't find stuff online on wether or not the plastic breaks down over time. If I were to get new ones, I'm leaning towards glass. Any recommendations?

I intend to BF again, so DD#2 will receive three bottles a day while I'm away at work if that makes a difference.

  • Based on the ones we were given by friends, glass bottles are really heavy. We went with plastic. Don't know about break down...

  • I like my dr brown glass bottles. I like to dishwash them and I don't have to worry about plastic breaking down. It always does breakdown and that is accelerated in higher temperatures in the dishwasher.

I used silicone sleeves on my large bottles, and not a single one has broken.

Yes they are heavy, but it isn't a big deal unless you want to pass the bottle to your baby and let them feed themselves. My lo didn't want to hold the bottle much, which was fine with me. I enjoy the snuggles.

My DC was fine with using glass bottles. There is no universal rule.

  • I used Lifefactory glass bottles and was very happy with them for both
  • I reused my plastic Avent bottles from my first kid 5 years ago.  I don't see the point in buying new ones.  Just sterilize them and they are good as new.

  • I have Born Free BPA-free plastic bottles and used them with DS and DD.  I got new nipples for DD and plan to do the same with #3.

  • Thanks everyone! I asked my OB (she just had another DD too) and she said she thinks it's fine to reuse after sterlization, of course!

  • We use Dr. Brown's glass bottles. I'm not a big fan of plastic in general, so I would probably buy her new ones. She only needs 3-4, so it shouldn't be very expensive to do so.
I agree. We also used glass Dr. Brown's bottles and only really needed 4. They weren't too heavy for LO at all, and they didn't wear out with time. We also stayed away from plastic.

  • Glass all the way. I hate plastic chemicals, and wont eat out of, or store, our food in it, so I wont use them to feed the baby with. I also didnt like to store my milk in plastic.
