Good evening everyone,
Hope everyone had a great day. I had a dr appt today to get blood results.
QUICK REVIEW:I stopped taking my pills in April and had one cycle the following month. I had my annual pap July 8 and informed my Dr that I had not had a cycle since May. She told me to wait another 2 weeks to see if I would start by myself. So 2-3 weeks go by and still NOTHING. I made an appt to go see the Dr and she informs me she would like me to get some blood work done. Now, a week later I am sitting at the Dr office again waiting for my results.
My Dr informs me that I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and she would like me to see a fertility Dr. It wasnt the worst news I could get but it's not the news I was wanting. I know this is something that a lot of women have and it's something that needs to be managed. I am confused because I was always regular before going on birth control, and I dont understand why now I am having issues.
I would love to hear other stories .
Re: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Did your doctor do an ultrasound? In order to be properly diagnosed with PCOS you have to have 3 out of 4 symptoms. One of those symptoms is polycystic ovaries, and that can only be checked by doing an ultrasound.
I think it's a good thing that your OBGYN referred you to a specialist.
Also, if you haven't already, check out the newbie link at the top of the main TTGP page.
Yeah! Talk about a I know it all, because your signs and symptoms state PCOS.

You should have an ultrasound. GOOD GUESSING THERE DOC!
I have not been diagnosed with PCOS however my ovaries look/are polycystic. When I went for my annual in January my docotor ran a series of blood tests which all came back fine. I do have horrible acne (which my dermatologist says is hormonal), have gained alot of weight over the last few years, irregular cycles, and cystic ovaries. My docotor said I do NOT have PCOS based on my blood work though. I find this hard to believe. When I voiced my concerns to my docotr in July he suggested an HSG to start with as far as fertility testing goes and we will take it from there. Waiting for my next cycle to start to schedule my HSG.

You should definitely have an ultrasound. PCOS is a clinical diagnosis, but your doctor should confirm it with bloodwork and an ultrasound.
I have always been a tiny person and never stuggled with my weight but i have always struggled with acne. I always thought it was just cause i was a teenager. Then when i got on BC it went away, now that I am off it is back. i thought i just had the worse skin ever but now knowing about PCOS it makes sense. I have an appt in Sept with a fertility Dr and I hope she can help.
Thanks for your comment
and Good Luck!
I did have bloodwork done, and based on that she said i had PCOS. My testosterone level is really high and some other things she pointed out. I made an appt with a fertility Dr to show them my bloodwork and get another opinion.
Thanks

I was diagnosed PCOS after an absent period (nothing from Sept-Dec; got in January when he gave me Provera and did blood work; nothing in Feb; one in March; nothing again until May with more Provera and appt) and blood work confirmed that I had almost twice the normal amount of testosterone.
He prescribed Metformin 500mg once a day beginning end of May, and I got AF end of July. Positive OPK last week, but no steady high temps afterward.
Did your ob/gyn do blood work also? If so, did she discuss any meds with you? I did not have an ultrasound, but blood work from earlier years when I was not on BC showed elevated testosterone. I was on BC for about 9 years, so I always had a regular cycle, leading the PCOS to go undetected.
My gyno did not discuss any medications. I dont have a ob/gyn yet, I have been seeing my gyno so far. She went over my bloodwork that showed my testosterone really high and gave me the names of some fertility doctors that she recommended. I have an appt Sept 12. How long do you have to take Metformin? is this something you will take daily till you get pregnant?
