Plates and bowls?

Right now instead of plates or bowls I put A's food on his tray or feed him off my plate. Usually I let him play with a spoon so he can learn it and such, but when and how do I start teaching plates and bowls? Every time I've tried it he turns them over, chews them, throws them etc...

So I'm thinking it's to early but I'm wondering when to try again. How do I teach him to leave it be and eat off it? This more like 6 months down the road? :-/

  • DD is the same way! I do what you do and just keep trying she'll get it eventually!

  • I was thinking about this too! Right now I do whAt you do. Plates and bowls would be dangerous because he loves to throw everything.

  • We have put a plate in front of DS at restaurants and as long as he is interested in the food he leaves the plate alone...until its empty, then he picks it up.

At home we put his food directly on the tray.

For DD, many years ago, we got her plates and bowls with suction cup bottoms. That way she couldn't pick them up and move them.
I can't remember when we started that or letting her use/play with the spoon.

DD was fed homemade purees in the beginning and DS is BLW.
  • Suction cup bottoms would be the only possibility for A right now! Lol even his favorites won't keep him from flipping a plate!

Kennedy will eat out/off from both of them. She doesn't pick them up until she is out of food. As for a spoon, I give her one from time to time to try. She actually has it pretty well figured out. However, food is her passion. LOL.

Edited to fix typo. I need sleep.
