I'm in a HDHP so no cost increase here. I don't know if my annual OOP max went up but it was $4200 last year. I max my HSA contributions. All preventative visits are covered 100%. I feel like my company offers a competative package.
The ACA did not require that your plans changed. The insurance companies and your employers are just using it as an excuse to pass more of the costs on to you.
The ACA is directly impacting me. As much as we were told "if you like your current plan, you can keep it." And "I will not raise taxes on middle class families." It was all BS (as many expected). I had incredible coverage. I mean incredible- I was covered at 100% by my employer, DH at 90% for premiums. That has changed to 85% for both. So our monthly cost is going up greatly. On top of that- we have to pay a fee (directly related to ACA) because my husband could get crappy insurance through his company. So our options are DH goes with a crappy plan (therefore not keeping the good plan we have) OR we pay a fee (I would consider this a $600 increase a tax for keeping our good plan) politicians are liars. They should not keep their jobs-not one of them! And BTW, we're not even "upper middle class," so we could really use that extra money elsewhere In our budget.
Yay, I finally get to play! DH just got his open enrollment paperwork. We have Empire PPO and it will be going up $30 a month! I am very excited after hearing so many people ended up being offered less coverage for more. Our ER copay went up to $150, but that is only if you don't use our hospital, then it's free. Pretty much anything done in our hospital is free, which is really nice,
Vision is staying the same, and we are considering getting the "better" dental this year, but it's an extra $20 per month, so it's still "up for discussion". DH had his wisdom teeth out this year and it would have been nice to have 80% covered rather than 50%!
I'm not really sure why people are complaining about the ACA.. If that was the case everyone's premiums would have gone up at the same rate across the board. Maybe employers are just not contributing what they used to.. I just looked at DH's paystub and his employer pays over $800 per month for the other "portion" of our healthcare.
My company is switching from a limited benefit plan for my position to having my choice of HRA, HSA, or FSA. The first two being funded by the company. All wellness visits with the HRA are 100% covered. But everything else is out of pocket until I reach the 4000 dollar deductible for my family. My company does put half of that in my account on Jan 1st so only 2000 is actually out if pocket.
For DH to keep everything as is, he would have to contribute another $200 a month out of his check. He has a high deductible and yes his company puts some money in his HSA. But what his salary is and what he brings home is really sad. And he is of course charged a ludicrous fee because I can get crappy coverage at my work. Health insurance is a headache.
Re: Open Enrollment time- how's your insurance looking?
