I friggin HATE when people ride their bikes in the street when there is a sidewalk. Yes, I know it's the law that you should be in the street, but get out of the street....
Whoa. Are we the same person? I have an irrational hate for these people. I have screamed out the window "SIDEWALKS!!" on more than one occasion. It's is one of my biggest pet peeves. Especially when there is a group of them riding NEXT to each other. I have fantasized about picking them off by shoving them off the street with my car. No joke.
LMAOOOOO I just want to casually drive by and give them a gentle push and then watch them fall in my rear view mirror. BUT I have to remind myself that they're being healthy and I should probably ride my bike more. SERIOUSLY THOUGH when does common sense take over and tell you to get on the sidewalk!?

I've had Chick-Fil-A at least three times this week and since we moved out of our house last Monday we haven't had a home cooked meal. Thankfully we're on our way to PA to visit my in-laws and I know they'll cook for us the two days we'll be there, then we're hitting the road (sky) for Germany and more eating out. Ugh.
I'm letting DD keep all her candy and am semi rationing it out to right after she wakes up from naps so she won't be wired for sleep time. Except for Snickers, she has trouble biting those.
Wow! katykatykaty- I agree with you " I guess my confession is that I don't understand what the big deal is about how you deliver. "!!! To me pregnancy, labor, and delivery are natural so whether or not I know what is going on my body does. I read books and educated myself on the birth process while pg with ds1 and it served me well to have the knowledge of the physical process of labor. I am not concerned with how others prepare themselves. I wish them well but truthfully don't get the desire to write a birthplan, etc... I believe we all wish for the same end result
I friggin HATE when people ride their bikes in the street when there is a sidewalk. Yes, I know it's the law that you should be in the street, but get out of the street....

Riding on the sidewalk is illegal in a lot of areas... so yelling at them won't do any good.
Thanks for stating the obvious, which was already stated. I'll still yell it though, thanks.
I love Halloween. But I am so glad it is over because for the last 48 hours all I see on my news feed is peoples kids in Halloween costumes. Its been annoying. Why do you need to post a million pictures of your kid in a terrible costume?
Also, I even confessed to my husband last night that I might be a bad mother because taking my kid trick or treating doesn't even sound fun.. hopefully that will change
I friggin HATE when people ride their bikes in the street when there is a sidewalk. Yes, I know it's the law that you should be in the street, but get out of the street....
It's okay. Everyone legally riding their bike in the street thinks you're an asshole too.
They can think what they want about me, I could give a rat's ass. They are the douche bags that ride IN THE MIDDLE of the street the MAJORITY of the time. I don't care if they are being healthy, I'd gladly watch them topple into a ditch on the side of the road and laugh all the way home.
It frustrates me that more people research on their electronics/buying cars/what to put on the registry then they do for labor/birth. I also think that birth is just like a marathon you need to train for it, mentally and physically no matter what type of birth you are reaching for. The go-with-the-flow thinking really scares me and I often worry about those thinking type people.
Go-with-the-flow pregnant lady here. When I was pregnant with DD I had no birth plan other than I knew I wanted an epi. I read a few books, but took zero classes. My thinking was that this baby was coming out one way or the other, and if any complications arose, there was nothing I could do about; that was up to my trusted, capable doctor and nurses who do this on a daily basis. I believed then and do this time that they are far more experienced and informed than I could ever become in 9 months, so I was going to defer to their judgement and experience.
Please don't take this attitude as not caring about my L&D. Of course I did and do. I just knew that despite months of research and preparation, it could all be for naught depending on what arose during delivery. Why stress myself out when I can enjoy being pregnant and looking forward to LO getting here?
Yup. I'd rather be open to whatever needs to be done than set myself up for unneeded anxiety. IMO caring for the baby afterwards is way more important than how that baby came out.
I friggin HATE when people ride their bikes in the street when there is a sidewalk. Yes, I know it's the law that you should be in the street, but get out of the street....

I am so horrified and hurt by this. Literally had to stop the tears when I read these comments. This is me you are yelling at. This is my husband and the father of my baby you are imaging pushing off the road. I am a loving mother of 4, soon to be 5, children. I am a triathlete and a triathlon coach and the people that you hate for following the law because it slightly inconveniences you are my friends and clients. They are all husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters.
My husband is out on a 100 mile bike ride this very moment in a town where just a few months ago one of our clients ( a brain surgeon and father of 3 young children) was hit by a car and LEFT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. By someone who maybe, like you, thought it sounded rewarding to see that happen because they were annoyed that a cyclist would follow the laws of our state and slow you down by 3 seconds.
Pedestrians belong on the sidewalks. Bikes are vehicles and belong on the road. Show some humanity and get over your privilege and entitlement. Is losing a few seconds on your commute really that important to you that you can throw decency and respect for others out the window? You yell at me to do something illegal and unsafe to save yourself inconvenience? I am just blown away by this attitude.
Mom to 5 wonderful kids: 18ds, 15ds, 13ds, 11dd and baby boy! Why get old when you can get pregnant?
@legallyginger I bet you'll be fine even if you don't study anymore. I left feeling like I had no idea how I did, but I passed as did everyone else I talked to who also felt that way. You should go shop.
I failed it. Kicked ass with the bar exam, but the MPRE got me all confused. I was super prepared for my first go round and thought I aced it. Failed horribly. Second time I didn't study as much, decided to not second guess my answers and kicked it's butt. I hate that exam. It's so illogical.
@babylimas The trick must be to not study! I totally agree that it was really illogical... I would read a question and think, "Yikes, I have no idea, better skip it," and then do that to the next one and the next one and so on.

1 - Obviously we wouldn't literally hurt someone for following the law. 2 - 2 bikes should not be considered vehicles, they do not have a vin number 3 - Common sense would tell you it is more dangerous to ride in the street with vehicles traveling 40+ MPH than on the sidewalk. It would be the same thing if there were a vehicle traveling slowly down the street or down the highway. It is dangerous when you are not flowing with the way of traffic. 4 - When I DO ride my bike, it is always on the sidewalk, or a bike trail. My dad is an avid bike rider - rides daily unless there is snow, in which he uses a stationary bike indoors. He does not ride in the street when there is a sidewalk.

Just so you know, it is perfectly legal to take the whole road as we are considered a vehicle just like you. In fact, it has been proven SAFER to take the whole road as cars are then more cautious than if you try to hug the shoulder, since then cars tend to skim you and not want to give room.

You are missing the entire point. Cyclists aren't allowed to ride on the sidewalk. It's incredibly dangerous for pedestrians and for the cyclist. Someone going 25+ mph should not be on a pedestrian sidewalk.

Exactly. In my extended circle I can list 4 people who were killed after being skimmed by a car and one who was left with traumatic brain injury. I know of one girl who is racing Florida tomorrow in her husband's place because he was killed last year while training right before the race.
Bikes are not better off on the sidewalk. They put kids, and any other pedestrian in danger, when they use the sidewalk. Some ppl can get pretty dam fast on their bikes and would not be able to stop or move out of the way of a child playing and where would you like the child to move to the road?
I mean, I get aggravated, too, when cyclists are on a hilly/twisty/narrow road with vehicles and I worry I'm too close and can't seem to slow down enough to pass them safely, so that momentary "don't get too close don't get too close don't get too close" panic irks me lol. But to wish people to fall in a ditch and get hurt? Yeesh :S
You must be the type of people that come in to my various places of work on Christmas Eve and berate the cashier for the store closing early.
Yeah, the quote tree is getting ridiculous. I don't have sidewalks where I live, btw. But I hope that when you are pushing your baby in a stroller on the sidewalk or walking your dog on a leash, that you NEVER have to deal with a cyclist. They don't belong on the sidewalk and it puts pedestrians at risk for them to be there.
See how it works here: I am a cyclist and I have COMPASSION for other people and don't want to see anyone get hurt even if I wished I could ride my bike on the damn sidewalk. Because I try to be nice and not an entitled jerk who thinks the laws and rules only apply to other people and I get to do as I wish.
Mom to 5 wonderful kids: 18ds, 15ds, 13ds, 11dd and baby boy! Why get old when you can get pregnant?
My confession is I don't read long post or responses.. I usually skim a sentence here and there. If it peaks my interest then I will read the whole thing. I honestly don't have the time or desire to read hours of this stuff.

Oh please. Stop you're crying. You're taking things a bit too literally here. I'm not going to actually hit anyone with my car. I don't care who they are, I can't stand it when they ride so far in the middle of the street. Sorry, but I learned how to drive in MA and they call us Massholes.
People most likely drive around here like massholes because this is where the roads were first made, and so they are narrow. Because they were made for horse and buggy, not cars. There's no such thing as "bike lanes" in the majority of the towns here. So when these PIA's are riding all over the place in the middle of the road, THEY are being the entitled assholes, because roads were made for people actually traveling somewhere, not exercising or going for a leisurely ride.

Sorry I don't know how to trim the quote tree.
Maybe its different because of the area we're in, but we don't have many pedestrians ... Not that there aren't ANY, but just not common. I will say that in the downtown area they've added bike lanes that I totally love. I just get super annoyed when traffic is backed up for blocks and then I get up to the reason it's backed up and it's a biker - with a perfectly good sidewalk next to them.
If the bikers were going 25+ mph I wouldn't have such an issue either - but that is not typically the case.

__________
I wasn't going to jump into this debate but had to comment on this point. As a pedestrian who has been hit by bicycles twice while walking on the sidewalk, I don't believe it is always safer for them to be on the sidewalk. On a crowded sidewalk, cyclists tend to weave in and out of people, and increase the likelihood of hitting a person. Whereas on the road, cars and bike alike tend to travel in straighter lines than walkers.
If the law in a given jurisdiction is that cyclists should be on the street, then there was probably research done into the safety of that (versus being on the sidewalk) before the law was enacted.
Edited: huge quote fail
How many cyclists get hit by cars vs pedestrians getting hit by bicyclists?

I mean, I get aggravated, too, when cyclists are on a hilly/twisty/narrow road with vehicles and I worry I'm too close and can't seem to slow down enough to pass them safely, so that momentary "don't get too close don't get too close don't get too close" panic irks me lol. But to wish people to fall in a ditch and get hurt? Yeesh :S
You must be the type of people that come in to my various places of work on Christmas Eve and berate the cashier for the store closing early.
Thank you for showing your humanity. I get it, people aren't used to cyclists and it can be annoying. But to not be able to see us as human beings with families waiting for us to get home is just so confusing to me - as I sit here waiting for my husband to get home from his bike ride.
Mom to 5 wonderful kids: 18ds, 15ds, 13ds, 11dd and baby boy! Why get old when you can get pregnant?
I'm already late for work so I stopped at Starbucks... Oh well. My boss will probably be later than me.
My train was late this morning so I did the same thing. I still got in before my boss. I don't feel guilty at all.
Also: maybe this is not flame-worthy, but I'm seriously considering not getting our mortgage through the broker who pre-qualified us based solely on the fact that he sent me an email asking me if our offer had been "excepted." Does that make me strange?

In my city we have loads of bike lanes so a lot of these problems are minimized (IMO). I do have two sharing the road complaints:
1) Most of the time drivers who are passing cyclists are doing it illegally (a cyclist has the whole lane, if you can't legally pass a car there, you can't legally pass a bike there) *and* they're doing it to speed (most of the streets here are 30 mph with cars going much faster than that way too often.
2) WAY too many cyclists ignore traffic laws and it is NOT helping their cause. If you're a vehicle, then you're a vehicle - even at a red light, even when you want to create your own turn lane, even when you want to pass in a no passing area.
So when these PIA's are riding all over the place in the middle of the road, THEY are being the entitled assholes, because roads were made for people actually traveling somewhere, not exercising or going for a leisurely ride.
And you know these people are not commuting . . . how? Most of my bike-riding friends do so for their daily commute.
In this state the law is for bikers to take the lane when the shoulder is too narrow for safe riding. Bicycles may not have VINs, but most state law considers them vehicles all the same. Take it up with your legislator. Most of these laws were put forth by people who, you know, actually STUDY BICYCLE SAFETY.
This is going to sound really bratty but I am kind of sad to be getting so much baby stuffed passed down to us. I feel like the only bigger purchase we are making is the car seat.
No joke.
"go with the flow" Maybe its just me but I see 2 different points here.
First, I could care less how other people give birth and I don't care what people think of my process/plan. I am go with the flow, however, I did educate myself on all that could happen. That is something I think everyone should do. You can absolutely choose to do whatever, when the time comes, but you should know your options, potential issues and how to deal with everything. Yes, the baby is coming either way, but so many things could happen. I didn't take any classes, but I read up on C-sections, bradley method. Lamaze, hypnobirthing, I know what home and water births are like, even though I have no interest in any in particular. I made sure I was aware of what interventions can happen and what could happen if I chose them. And then I decided, that I had no real birth plan, I had preferences and when the day came I knew I could mentally handle what happened. I also wanted to be able to let DH or my mom know my wishes or what I was doing was OK with me, especially if a quick decision had to be made. So I sort of agree with both sides here.

Oh, ok. You are excused and not responsible for what you said because you are from MA. Gosh, if I had known that I would not have been hurt at all by what you said and your lack of humanity. Because we all know it's got nothing to do with you as a person, it's just because you are from Massachusetts.

omg - just this morning I was looking at someone I know's registry and feeling jealous because they're registered for everything and I have either hand me downs, consignment versions or already owned the vast majority of the stuff I need so my registry is like... bottles, mattress protectors, diaper pail - super boring stuff that wears out easy. I know that for me it's the right move to use used mostly but I also kinda want to go crazy at BRU

I don't think you sound bratty, but I do think it's funny how opposite we are! I got hand-me-down everything too and I was SO grateful because I really didn't want to do any shopping at all, or even fuss over what brand of crib. Just not my thing.
@linzerd OMG I can't believe you said that. OMG....I just can't. Never in a million years would I ever imagine someone on this board wishing this on me or my husband or my friends. How can you wish this on anyone? How??? My friend WAS that guy in a ditch recently. Left there by the car that hit him. Got a concussion. You would laugh at that? I would love to see you tell that to his wife and three young children. He followed the law to the letter and you would LAUGH ALL THE WAY HOME at him getting hit by a car? Where the FUCK is your humanity?
Just so you know, it is perfectly legal to take the whole road as we are considered a vehicle just like you. In fact, it has been proven SAFER to take the whole road as cars are then more cautious than if you try to hug the shoulder, since then cars tend to skim you and not want to give room.
Exactly. In my extended circle I can list 4 people who were killed after being skimmed by a car and one who was left with traumatic brain injury. I know of one girl who is racing Florida tomorrow in her husband's place because he was killed last year while training right before the race.
For fuck's sake. I was NOT serious about HITTING SOMEONE. It was a joke. And when I said seeing someone topple into a ditch, I was NOT referring to them being HIT by a car and then toppling. "I'd gladly watch them topple into a ditch on the side of the road" I'd just like to ask where I said IN THAT sentence I'd like to HIT them, watch them topple and laugh. Just falling that's all. I also never said I'd hit someone on a bike and leave them there, that's absurd and you all need to settle the fuck down. You can all get your panties out of a bunch now.

You are just obviously too witty for me. Such humor! I'm sure all of your friends find you amazingly hilarious.
Unfortunately the rest of us just think you are a dumbass and incredibly stupid, since you aren't even understanding what's written above. You referenced riding in the middle. We were explaining why that is safer than riding on the side. But hey, you get on with your joke-filled masshole bad self.
And since you've obviously never been on a bike, falling causes injury. You know, because your body collides with the ground. But, again, I just don't get the hilarity in wishing traumatic injury on someone or their family member, so obviously I'm the one failing here.

2 - 2 bikes should not be considered vehicles, they do not have a vin number
3 - Common sense would tell you it is more dangerous to ride in the street with vehicles traveling 40+ MPH than on the sidewalk.
