Snacks

Hi ladies!

I feel like we've fallen into a snack rut. I feel like DS has been overloading on bananas and string cheese (his favorites). What are your go to snacks lately?

  • Raisins and other dried fruit, string cheese, fruit snacks, berries, oranges, grapes, and goldfish are our go-to snacks.

  • My kid really likes Humus, which is weird. We eat them with triscuits. Mini caramel rice cakes. Sweet potatoes fries. Chocolate milk is a special treat too. He flips for that.

  • DS likes craisins and raisins, earths best vege cookies, cereal bars, and he loves the GoGo squeeze apple sauce thing. It's pretty much like a pouch but its applesauce mixed with another fruit. I make a banana oatmeal snack and add in craisins and he seems to like those.
  • Cheddar cheese slices, fresh fruit, finger sandwiches, frozen yogurt
  • Pretzel sticks, grapes, apple slices, homemade mini muffins, avocado, rice cakes, Angry Birds crackers (DD's obsession), oatmeal, black or pinto beans, whatever DS is eating, whatever I am eating, whatever she grabs from the fridge.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • Emberlee, my DS likes going in the fridge too. Except he always goes for the cheese. Lol!

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I'll be stocking up on some new snacks.

  • I thought raisins were still a choking hazard at this age. Hmmm...we may have a new food to try!

That was exactly my thoughts as well.
  • In addition to bananas (which she would eat nonstop if I let her) she likes pear and peach cubes, craisins, goldfish crackers, cherrios and sometimes I just give her some steamed mixed veggie pieces since she loves them.  Honestly the kid eats everything so it's pretty much just whatever I set in front of her :P

My kid is really weird. He won't eat bananas that aren't puréed/in a pouch. And puréed bananas actually seemed to be his favorite when he first starting eating! I thought maybe the sliminess was strange for him, so I tried coating banana pieces in crushed Cheerios. Still won't eat them. Although I think they're delicious! He loves goldfish and pickles. He also snacks on Annie's white cheddar bunnies and bunny Graham's, Asian pear slices, sweet pepper slices, sweet potato puffs, yogurt, and cheese.

I admit I've given DS raisins before. But I only give him one at a time and I watch him like a hawk.

You can try them out and see how your LO does.  DS had no problem with them at age 1.  DD doesn't really care for raisins, but she eats whole grapes (obviously I watch her and only let her eat them if she's sitting in her booster seat).

My son loves dried cranberries.  No issues with choking, the ones we have are larger but very soft. I still watch closely. This morning he wanted to share a bowl of cereal with DH but everyone's a little sick so I made him have his own bowl of rice crispies.  DS picked all the cranberries out of his Dad's bowl and put them into his own cereal.  He thought he was so clever!
