So my husband and I had 2 names, one boy, one girl, that we liked and I use the word liked loosly. He wanted Zoe for a girl and I wanted Connor for a boy. And after 10 weeks, he decided that he isn't sold on Connor and quiet frankly, I'm not a fan of Zoe. This isn't news to him, he has always known I wasn't a fan of Zoe and he was always okay with Connor till yesterday. So this leaves us with no names. Oh and I forgot to mention, my husband doesn't think the baby needs a middle name... which makes me what to hit him upside the head. Our baby will have a middle name. I really want to have a name picked out so when we go to our 20w appointment, I can walk out with a named baby growing inside. And if you think about it, that leaves us only 9 weeks to come up and AGREE on a name.
So, fellow Momma-to-be's, where are you getting your names from? I promise I won't steal your name, I just need some help. Looking through a baby name book makes my head spin!
Re: Baby Name Dilemma
DH and I have always butted heads about names. At first he really wanted Max. All I thought was that it was a dogs name. Although through the years, the name has started to grow on me. Now he wants Jackson for a boy, which I am ok with but I like it spelled Jaxson and he doesn't.
For the girl, I love the name Allie. DH doesn't but would compromise by naming her Allison and I could call her Allie. He jokes around saying that if I call her Allie, he will call her son (the last half of Allison).
DH wasn't a fan of middle names until I mentioned that I wanted family names as middle names. I want to use my grandmom's name for the girl and he could use a family name for the boy. He liked that idea and wants to use his step-fathers name as a middle name, as he never had any kids of his own.
I'm that odd person who named my kids when I was in middle school. They've changed a little over the years though.
DD is Emberlynn Nicole. Emberlynn I really did find on a baby name website in middle school while doing a school project and I just loved it. Nicole is my middle name.
Our first son (assuming we have at least one boy) will be Jacob Nicholas. Both DH and I like Jacob and Nicholas is DH's middle name.
Our next daughter will be Zoe Madelon. We got Zoe from the song Zoe Jane which we both love. And Madelon (I know it's an odd spelling) was my grandmother's middle name.
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!
Names come pretty easily for us. A few hours after we found out we were expecting #4, DH already had a girls name, and I had a boys. LOL!!
We've agreed that the boy will be Oliver Wayne (Wayne is DH's middle name). And the girl will be Sabrina Beatriz (Beatriz is my middle name). Now it's just waiting for our u/s. : )
This. My husband hates my #1 girl name, and I can foresee us getting into a screaming match about what he wants for our boy name. I'd rather know we're fighting with a purpose. ;-) Ah, the joys of parenting...already.
This song makes me bawl my eyes out. Love, love, love Zoe.
This is us, too.
We're starting to run into more of an issue on deciding whether or not to choose family names or names we like.
And for names we like, we have a pretty big list of names we BOTH love! This is going to be a tough call!
I think it's fun to use babynamegenie.com....just to see what they come up with.
DH and I have been throwing out names here and there, but we haven't found anythign that we love yet. I know it'll come in time. But we don't hvae a set time where we want to have a name. Really, I'd be ok with having a small list of favorites and then naming the baby after it's born.
This is totally us. We're pretty set on 2 full boy names actually, but up in the air with our girl names. We casually throw out ideas, but I'm not tackling that big baby name book for girls until we find out what we're having. What a waste of time and energy for us to figure out a girl name when we don't even know what we're having yet.

It is okay if you don't have a name at 20 weeks. This is not a dilemma. 9 weeks is also a lot of time. And, you may change your mind too.
I can just give you some family names maybe one fo those will help

We have our names picked out, with an alternative name for each gender JUST in case we decide at birth we like the other better.
Girl: Lucy Mae, with the alternate name being Scarlett.
Boy: Henry Miles, with the alternate name being Broderick
We will walk out of the gender u/s with a name, BUT we wont get anything monogrammed just in case
Ok this may sound weird, but it worked for us... Before DH and I even got engaged, we talked about baby names. And we started with boys. We randomly threw out names we liked, and when that didn't work, we decided to go through the alphabet and each say a name we liked beginning with that letter. A- I said I liked Anthony, he said he liked Adam... and so forth. It wasn't until we got to R that we both said the same name. Maybe that idea could work for you guys?
This. With DD we worked really hard on coming up with solid boy or girl names and got nothing. We decided to drop it until after we knew whether we were having a boy or girl and one day while hanging out on the couch throwing around names, we came up with the perfect one. Evelyn Juliana is her name and we love it!
Nameberry is a great website. Probably my favorite for baby names. They have lots of lists, and you can even browse other users' lists. You can also sign up for a daily email. Today's was all about using character names from Game of Thrones! Not something I'd do, but entertaining, nonetheless.
We have another name book we really like (we don't like the big name compendium books) called Bring Back Beatrice! It only has about 1100 names in it, but it goes into great detail about potential nicknames, pop culture uses of the names, related names, etc. It's really great and not at all overwhelming.
My husband and I are movie fanatics, him more so than I. We are naming our baby boy Logan, after Wolverine...haha
and his middle name will be Jacob, yes, Team Jacob (Twilight). We didn't realize this but both of these characters are or are like wolves. So our son will be named after a wolf. Short for Jacob, is Jake, and I think of Jake Ryan from 16 Candles too.
For the girl (which we aren't having), it was Hannah Olivia. Hannah because it began with an H like my stepdaughter, there aren't many names like that we could think of. Olivia, I just picked it randomly, love the sound it has to it.
Hope that helps.
Frankly, I think this is a brilliant idea and I might have to steal it. How fun!
This exactly!! We figure it will be easier to agree when we can eliminate one whole gender!!
My DH and I had a hard time picking my DD's name. After we found out the gender we ended up writing lists and comparing, eventually we found a name we both really liked.
This time he's already accepted my girl's name (of course he's convinced we are having a boy) and we are trying to agree on a boy's name.
This is weird to me.
