The problem with Amazon registries....

I just received a box yesterday with two items, and no "congratulations" card (not sure what to call it, but most people put in some sort of "Congrats! - from XYZ" when giving gifts) - so I have NO clue who this is from.  Amazon generally keeps a "thank you list" which details who bought what, but these items weren't listed as purchased - so someone must have went off-registry to get me the same thing I registered for.

Do I ask around to see if I can figure out who bought it for me, or do I wait for someone to be offended that they didn't get a thank-you card?

Re: The problem with Amazon registries....

  • I might put a general "thanks to whoever sent me this awesome gift" thing on Facebook. And mention it didn't have a name attached so you'd like to give them credit but can't.

this was my first thought, but I didn't know if it would come across more like "look at all these gifts people are getting for me" (I'm very careful about being too AW-ish on FB)

The problem there isn't with the registry (Amazon didn't do anything wrong if someone purchased off-registry and didn't want to include a gift insert).  You can try calling Amazon and explaining the situation; they may be able to help, especially if you still have the order number.

You can also wait until your shower and ask around then.

My shower is on Sat.  I'll try to ask around, or maybe just happen to mention "yeah, I got XYZ in the mail, but I have no clue who it was from - I wish I could thank them"

  • I got a gift from someone from Amazon not from a registry but I did not know who.  Their ph# was on some part of the box or shipping lable DH figured it out and I put the number in my phone and voila!

    smart!  I'll check for a ph# when I get home today :)
  • I have called amazon directly when I received gifts with no name attached and they were able to tell me who sent it without any hassle.
This happened twice and Once there was no card bc it was in box 2 of the shipment which came a few days later.
  • I've had the same thing happen to me. Like PP, I called Amazon and they told me who it was from, no problem. I just had to give them the order number or something like that.
I'm gonna try on Monday - there was no packing slip in the box, so I don't have an order number.  I asked around at my shower, with no luck.  I have one more idea before I do a general "I'd like to thank you" on FB.

How about a tracking number on the box? I received a wine fridge from Amazon with no info for my wedding and they were able to tell us who it was from just by the tracking number.
I was going to try today, but forgot to take a picture of the box, I'll have to call once I get home and see if they can help me.
