Fused placentas?

Our dr thinks our babies are di/di. Or at least, she did. At 13.5w she did an u/s and said they're either mo/di or di/di with fused anterior placentas. The separation bw two sacs was evident early on. But all u/s they've said they "think" they have 2 separate placentas.
Anyone had fused placentas or end up really being mo/di?

I'm in the same situation!! Although my OB is thinking they are mo/di but I think only to keep an eye on them since it may cause TTTS. I'd live to hear some answers on this as well! For you mo/di moms is you one placenta really big? Or normal size?

I had the same thing when I was pregnant. At 10 weeks the tech said I had 2 placentas and at 12w6d I had 1 big one. I posted my u/s here and everyone said they had to be mo/di. My OB continued with the di/di theory. After my girls were born, I called about my placenta and my OB said there's no way they are ID. Well, I did a DNA test and they are in fact ID. I think they were definitely mo/di. So make sure your OB treats you like mo/di just in case. I wish I had pushed harder for better monitoring but I didn't know better and trusted what the professionals said.

Mo/di and di/di (even with fused placentas) still look very different and any provider who knows what they are doing should be able to tell the difference between the two on an early u/s. I would request to see an MFM (high risk pregnancy specialist) to get a definite answer. If they clearly had a thick membrane between them earlier on, it sounds like they are di/di. Post a pic if you can!

They are definitely di/di by the looks of that first pic.

As for the fused placenta question, I believe that the twins in that case should be treated as mo/dis (that is, monitored a bit more closely) since TTTS can occur through the fused placenta....but, ladies who know more than I, correct me if I'm wrong, plz.

Def didi...and I don't get how the placentas are fused...they are in completely different places lol. I would def wait for MFM. I went to one Dr the whole pregnancy and had to do my follow up with the dr who actually did my csection. My report confirmed mo di pregnancy. I asked so they are def identical then right? and his response was not necessarily. Which is not the case...all mo di are identical (insert eye roll). Some Drs just don't know twins.

Looks like the early placentas were in different places (anterior and posterior I think). Now they are both anterior and u/s level 2 tech and dr. Said fused. Then dr said later maybe one. I believe the tech over dr lol
She referred me to MFM immediately. I also have previous PTL, Cholestasis of pgcy, etc. So I had to go anyway.

Those look di/di fore sure. I don't think fused is usually an issue and doesn't have the same risk as TTTS like mo/di does. I think there can extremely rare cases when it can happen, but I don't believe they share blood vessels like one placenta does. I hope you can get more answers from your MFM, good luck!

Yeah, I'd definitely call di/di based on those pics. This is what my mo/di's looked like at 6wks. One big black sac, barely visible membrane between them (which was caught on a different pic/video) that looked like a ribbon waving around in there. It was so faint they didn't say 100% till our 3rd u/s at 11wks.

That's sort of how our mo/dis were. We just ruled out mo/mo on Monday.

Don't take the tech's word for it either. Mine were clearly Mo/Di and the tech said I had 2 placentas. My U/S pic looked nothing like yours. Yours are definitely di/di.

I'd guess mo/di based on what I can see (currently on mobile) in that pic. Did your OB say one way or the other?

My OB can't tell for sure if they are di/di or mo/di. They have their own sacs. Also even the Ultrasound Tech couldn't tell if they were di/di or mo/di.
