I'm not pregnant (lurking), so I won't vote, but I will turn 30 in November and DH will be 30 in January.
In other words, if we're ever blessed with children, we will be at least 30+. Likely 31 or 32 before it actually happens.
I conceived (without medical intervention) two weeks after my 40th birthday. And I wouldn't have it any other way. And we're debating trying for a second after this one.
I'm much more established in my career, have more money, own a lovely home and have more patience and more wisdom than if I had got pregnant at 30.
There's more than one path through life.
4th baby... I predict DH and I will be having babies long into my 30s.
I liked the answer someone said in response to how old is too old... when you stop ovulating. Couldn't have said it better. When my body tells me I can't physically have any more babies, I'll stop having them.
I realize there was a story last year, I believe, about a 60-something woman being the surrogate mother for her grandbaby (the 60-year-old's daughter couldn't complete a pregnancy or something, so she volunteered to be implanted with the baby and carry it to term...)... I thought I heard of this, or maybe I'm making it up and not remembering, but that is an extreme case, at any rate. I also think she wasn't quite menopausal yet, so that goes back to the "when you stop ovulating" thing.
I do think there is a big regional difference in when people are having kids. I don't want to generalize too much, but when I look at my friends in major metropolitan cities, most of them (30-35yo) are single and not having kids any time soon, while when we go back to DH's hometown (20,000 inhabitants, middle of nowhere Indiana) most of his high school friends got married early 20s and have grown kids. So I could see how if all your friends were done having babies at 25 you might think 32 seems old to be pregnant, but it's definitely not too old! Funny story, when DH and I went to take baby classes, we were by far the youngest couple there and when I delivered DD at least 3 nurses commented on how young and healthy I was compared to most of their patients, and i was 29 years old.
Not everyone gets to pick the age they get to have children. If everything had gone as planned, we'd have had our first when I was 29, second at 31, and we'd be debating if we wanted #3 right now. Instead we've had an empty crib gathering dust in the "nursery" for several years.
I wanted to have had my first of many before my 30th birthday. That was my big goal for 3-0: be a mom. I'll count myself truly lucky and blessed if I have our one and only by my 34th birthday. We can't afford to keep trying, so this is our last chance at a happy ending.
But at least I won't be an "old" mom. (sarcasm- I'll be just as old as I am and I certainly don't feel like it's time for a walker and dentures)
