  The psychology professor interviewed for the article is right - this is unlikely to help anyone.

  I think the idea that treats are for special occasions, like Halloween, is a healthy attitude. Kids walking around the park with open full size bags of chips and that colored sugar water with foil lids stuff is not and punishing kids on Halloween isn't putting a stop to that.

  she shouldn't be picking out certain children. If she cares about childrens health she should give out a healthy treat to EVERY child that trick or treats there

  I agree with pp. This lady isn't going to help anyone. How does a parent explain such a letter to their child? "Oh you didn't get candy because she thinks you're fat."
  She should not participate at all in Halloween. Or give all kids a non edible treat.
  I think she's taking the "it takes a village" idea too far.

  yeah. this isn't fair. she really doesn't need to get all off this attention. like PP said- she should just hand out healthy snacks to all- not fat shame kids that are obese. Her house will be hit with eggs and TP I'm sure.

  You just described the breakfast and lunch served at the high school where I work: chips and the colored sugar water with foil lids.

  Yeah, if she really cared she could give a healthy snack or non food item to everyone, and even include a note about healthy eating if she wanted (without calling kids fat). It wouldn't have been on the news beforehand, but it seems she is in it more for attention.
  
  I have noticed more dentists and doctors offering candy buyback programs, where kids can get a certain amount of money for each pound of candy they turn in.

  Unknown.  To be fair, the breakfast chips are like potato hash brown things.  This doesn't, however, change the fact that they are fried potato product.
  
  It's okay because most of the kids don't buy it.  The go across the street to the gas station to buy a two-liter of soda and a full size bag of chips.
