Letters to my fur babies... Sorry in advance.

<<ETA:  BAH!!  I feel like a dick.  I posted this and didn't see prim's post about having to put her fur baby down..  :((  I'm sorry if I seem insensitive.. I didn't see the post ahead of time. What do I do!?! >>

Cora Jean, please stop whining incessantly.  It makes me want to get your squeaker removed or lock you in a closet on the other end of the house.  I tried snuggling with you.  You immediately started whining again once I had to get up to take care of LO.  I tried playing with you.  You just sat there and whined some more.  I let you out to play with your brother and potty, and now I'm pretty sure you're trying to start a fire with your paws on the door.  I'll let you in, it's just annoying because you find and play in every. single. mud puddle in the 5 minutes you are outside and drag that mess all over the house.  I also find it unacceptable that you and your brother insist trot around like good puppies outside, but as soon as you're let inside, it's like a cage match in our living room.  It creates a hostile environment for baby girl and I have to put her in her pack n play because of it.  She doesn't like her pack n play as much as she likes her hangy toys on the ground, so this usually means I have to give up being productive for the hour of the day I get to do so and soothe her while you two run around like maniacs.

Chipper, I get that you're a rabbit dog.  We try to take you out to run as often as we possibly can!  It's just been hard since Avery came into the picture.  Daddy works and goes to school full time and mommy is trying to go to school and take care of you puppies and Avery as best as she can while battling PPD/A etc etc etc.  I know you're feeling antsy, but could you stop digging foot-deep holes all around the foundation of our house and by the fences?  I don't have time to fill them in and I find it irritating that I can't enjoy the patio because you sling dirt and mud all over it and our patio furniture.  Also, barking super loud because you want out of your kennel at 7 in the morning is a real dick move.  It always ends up pissing off LO and then I have to get up and deal with you, your sister, and the baby, when I could really use another hour or so of sleep.  You know daddy gets home late and we don't end up getting to bed until 1 or 2 in the morning most nights!  Another thing--if you or your sister step on LO ONE. MORE. TIME. I swear I will go off on your furry little asses.

Anyone else taking issues with some of their furbabies' bad habits recently?

NOTE:  I love my furbabies.. Am I frustrated with them right now?  Yes.  Do I sometimes wish we had not taken on the responsibility?  Yes.  Will we ever get rid of them?  No.  They are family and we will work through these issues. Just wanted to clear that up in case someone was starting to think I'm a heartless bish. ;)

Oh my fur baby got a stern talking to today. I try to sit on the floor with her and DD to play ball. What does she do? Go and get the ball and drop it 2 feet away from me and expects me to go get it to throw again? Nah, not happening. We finally got the ball thing down where she was bringing the ball to me and then we needed to stop for bath time. She kept bringing me the ball and sniffing my butt. Argh. I feel bad that she's left to fend for herself in terms of entertainment, but help a sister out doggy!

ETA: You're allowed to be frustrated even though someone else may have to put down their pet.

  • Poor pups! I 've good success with dog training classes. Dogs won't ever be perfect, but I've learned some great tools and how to shape their behavior. BTW "leave it" is the most useful command. Ever. If you can teach your dogs anything, let it be that! I think that would fix most of your issues.

I can't stand when my dogs shake their heads. The flapping ears always startles LO. She can sleep through barking, but not the flapping. I can't train them to stop that :( good luck!
