I would literally do anything to get rid of the 1:00/2:00am feeding. ANYTHING. ugh. I would be a new person. LO will be 8 weeks Friday.....I am ready for him to sleep more!!
It varies a lot. DD1 stopped at 4 weeks, haven't been so lucky with DD2. I know people who still feed their 2 year olds in the middle of the night. Our pedi (and several I interviewed) encourage cutting the middle of the night feeding and sleep training at 4 months.
My LO surprised me and has dropped the 2:00am feeding for the past 2 days which means I get 5 hours of interrupted sleep. He's just over 4 weeks old. It's probably a total fluke though so I'm not getting my hopes up but the last two nights have been WONDERFUL.
It's very early for no night feedings. I don't remember with my daughter... I'm guessing closer to 6 months or later. Once they're sleeping through the night consistently.
it varies but yeah...most kids take about a year to get to 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep on a consistent basis. The other thing is around this age you might get to one feeding or even a night with no feedings, but then things are likely to regress and at 4 mo or 8-9 mo or some random time your kid will be back to waking up 4x a night. I recommend "healthy sleep habits happy child" but there are lots of other sleep books on the market you can try out. If the feeding is driving you crazy you should definitely read up on it. How does DH do? Could he take over some nights? You could just pump a bottle or something?
We sleep trained DS1 at 8 months to stop nursing to sleep and the MOTN feedings were done around 9/10 months with some effort over a 2 weeks. We continued to BF until he was 15 months. I think the MOTN feedings were what helped us BF so long and so successfully.
LO at 2 months is still waking 3-5 times/night between 7 and 7 and I'd love to get to a 11pm dream feed, 2am, and 4am feed with 7 am wake up. However , I think I'll have to wait a while yet to get there.
DS....at 7 weeks and 5 days he slept 10-6 until he was 14 weeks old (then regressed around 4 months to waking up once per night for about a month). DD is 8 weeks and she wakes between 4-5, which is technically STTN ( down at 8, dreamfeed between 10-11)but I don't count it until I can get up for the day. FWIW. I formula feed every three hours during the day unless she shows hunger cues earlier (usually doesnt) And just because they sleep through the night early, doesn't mean you are in the clear!
I also recommend Healthy Sleep Habits....it worked for me, but I am one of those people that are very structured and don't mind a little crying when age appropriate.
When my older daughter was 4mos I stopped feeding her at night. I would just rock her back to sleep. She wasn't hungry. That being said, its all variable. My LO is waking all kinds at night. 3 times easy at 9 weeks. By this point my older daughter was only waking once. Somehow I don't think I will be able to stop MOTN feedings at four months like I did last time.
Wow you ladies are making me a bit jealous!! I'm happy for you all... But would love one mid night feeding. Mine are still 11pm, 130am, 330am, 530am and around 7-8am. So I'm about 4-5 feedings. Count your blessings!! I know it will get better one day! In the meantime I enjoy snuggles.
There's a big difference between middle of the night feedings and waking up at night. LO's who are still being fed in the middle of the night at 2+ years is excessive. That's when it's out of habit not necessity.
If I remember correctly, DS1 was around 4 months when he was STTN for an 8 hour stretch.
DS #1 was around 3 months old when he gave up a feeding in the MOTN and was SSTN. DS #2 wakes up once to eat- but hasn't given up the MOTN feeding just yet- he hasn't reached 3 months yet and every baby is different.
DD1 was 10 wks and she would sleep 9-430, then it gradually went all the way sttn. Right now my LO wakes at 1:30 and 5 ish and it's the 5 am that's killing me. I hate getting back up knowing my toddler might be up by the time I get the baby back to sleep Eta: then DD1 got up every. single. night from 6-8 months for a bottle bc of teething so just bc they start sttn doesn't mean they always will.
My almost 10 week old is now regressing somehow So he is adding more MOTN feedings. Previously he would sleep for a 5 hr stretch, then a 3 hr stretch. Now he's up every 1 to 3 hours. Hoping this phase passes quickly. I really was enjoying that long stretch.
DD1 started sleeping 9 hours straight around 7 weeks. So far, DD2 is waking up once in the night most nights. She's slept 8-9 hours a couple times, but not regularly. I'm ok with the 1x a night wake up. I don't think it's too terrible.
Ha! I would love one MOTN feeding! DS is 6 weeks and gets up every 1.5-2 hours. And sometimes it takes me two hours to put him back down, then he's hungry again.
Haven't read all the replies but I'm sure it is a huge variance of answers. DS was 5 weeks early, but was sleeping from 8-6am regularly by 4 months (so almost 3 months adjusted age). DD dropped the 1/2ish feed by about 8 weeks and has slept from 9-7 give or take an hour since 9 weeks.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
DD is 9 weeks. Usually last feeding is about 9/930 and then he sleeps until 2 or 3. Pedi told me yesterday that if he isn't sleeping thru the night by 3 months that I could start rice with the night time feeding. I guess this only applies to EBF babies and not FF.
My girl is 5 and a half weeks. Feeds at 10 ish, then on a good night she sleeps til 3:30. On a not so good night she's up at 1:30. Then again around 5-6 and then at 7-8, but I'm up by that last one. So waking up twice. We hold her upright for about 15 min after so she won't barf. Then try to get her back in the crib...which can take 30 min or so. Sigh, I'm tired!

I probably should have clarified mine then. They weren't eating at 2.5 & 3.5 years, but still waking to go to the bathroom, wanting a drink, losing a baby doll, needing their blanket fixed, or just being awake etc.
January 2009: Goodbye TR (13 weeks)
February 2010: Welcome DD1!
March 2011: Welcome DD2!
Ha! I would love one MOTN feeding! DS is 6 weeks and gets up every 1.5-2 hours. And sometimes it takes me two hours to put him back down, then he's hungry again.

Yup, both of these sound pretty familiar. I would be totally elated if she only woke up once at night.
Re: btdt when did the middle of the night feedings stop
DS2 was 2.5 years.
DS3 has already dropped middle of the night feedings and he is 6 weeks.
Boy #3!
Dd2 was 2.5 years
They both were kind and started to STTN a month before this baby was born.
Yes, I have a blog and it's hilarious (except when it's not)
