Trying to Get Pregnant

Late & Short "period"

My period came 6 days late (Im Never late) and then when I got it it was very short like a day and a half. My periods are always 5 days. This is my 3rd month off birth control pills. Any thoughts? Should I see my doctor?

Re: Late & Short "period"

  • Can we see your chart pretty please?
  • Loading the player...
  • You're never late, until you are. No need to bother your doctor for something many, many women experience. Wonky cycles happen.

You're only "late" if you chart and can confirm you actually O'd. So do you chart?
  • Yep, you're never late till you are!

I also have an occasional cycle that isn't my norm (I'm a 2 day light flow AF, but I've been having heavy flow 3-4 day cycles here and there).

    Good luck to ya!

Short periods are still periods. I have them.

  • What PPs said! I went off BC mid February and so far have had 9 cycles in the 8 months, completely "missed" a period in July and have yet to have it this month, based on my temp spike I ahould have started two weeks ago but here I sit still waiting. The first 3 months off BC I had a period every other week.

    Never late since when?

I was wondering the same OP. Are you counting the cycles you had while on the pill?
  • I just started charting unfortunately... I wish u had started earlier now so I would have some answers... And never late since forever... Even before I got on birth control a few years ago... I was asking because I heard that typically a period is at least more than 2 days of bleeding that's why u was concerned... I realize we can have off cycles once in a while... Thanks everyone!
  • I ended up calling my doctor and she wanted me to come in. She ended up doing some bloodwork today. I should have more info tommorow.
  • All of the nurses and lab techs that assisted you today are hella eye rolling you right now. They did this to suffice you, although not sure why....

  • It's only been 3 cycles... Geez... I'm still trying to wrap around women not realizing that cycles can be wonky as fuck after coming off of BC. Short, light, heavy, vary by a few days to weeks, whatever. It's all about the process of your body regulating its own hormones.
  • My bet is by "she ended up doing some bloodwork" you mean "I lied and said I think I'm pregnant and requested bloodwork"

There is absolutely no reason to do bloodwork because you had an off cycle coming off BCP.

You might be on to something. Maybe we were suppose to say something like, "That wasn't your period! Sounds like implantation bleeding to me!"
  • OP, I've been spotting for 7-10+ days pre-period for over a year now, this last cycle I actually spotted for 15 days (right from ovulation until my period started), had my period for three days, then spotted for another 4 days - so a total of 21+ days straight of bleeding in some form or another.  My doctors have never once recommended I come in for same day bloodwork.  Either you lied to them to get in, or they saw a paying sucker coming from a mile away.  Either way, you suck...why on earth did you ask for our opinions and then go against every single piece of advice you got?

Oh wow.. She's flagging people now. Nice. @BrandonsBex, the flag is not a dislike button. Excessive and unnecessary flagging will get you banned.
