Nose suction?

Hi all - dd has a cold with a lot of nasal congestion. It is only her second one, but with her first she would cooperate with the electric booger sucker thingy. Now she screams and flails around. What works for you all? Is this even necessary? We do use saline spray first. Thanks!

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

Re: Nose suction?

  • I find it necessary at least before bed time and nap time, otherwise she can't breathe enough to sleep well. I just have to (gently) pin her head between my hand and some soft surface (like the side of the changing pad) - I don't press her head, but I have my hand next to her head so that she can't really flail back and forth like she wants to or she runs into either my hand or the changing pad, if that makes sense. And then I try to suck fast.

It's easier if DH is there. Then one of us holds her and the other sucks. DD1 figured out when she was a little over a year old that the aspirator makes her feel better afterwards, so now with her it's not an issue, thankfully. DD2 seemed to have a moment or two of that realization during her 2nd to last cold, but in the last one she had forgotten again and acted like we were trying to suck out her brains.
